Good evening kids!  I have a question, that I believe I know the answer to, but want to re-confirm.Good evening kids! I have a question, that I believe I know the answer to, but want to re-confirm. The Arlo Pro 2 cameras are able to be added on to the current Arlo Pro base? We have moved and the house is larger than my last, so I have 3 more cameras to add to my current subscription and since the Pro (1) series are clearanced/discontinued, I want to add a few without having to purchase a whole new system I am also open to experience and comments with the newer systems and whether it would be worth utilizing a 720p in not so heavily trafficked areas and utilizing a 4k system in my high traffic areas and any interference between the two

Yes. Pro 2 can be used with any base station or smarthub. In reality, the difference between the 720p of the Pro, the 1080p of the Pro 2, the 2K of the Pro 3 and the 4K of the Ultra are not massive due to FOV and video compression

I bought a pro system to do just what you said. They just aren’t as good at night recording or picture quality As The 2’s

I use pro2 around the house and inside. Pro3 in the high traffic areas like outside door.

So, looking at the Pro 2 and Pro 3 differences, I like the idea of Pro 3 having color night vision, that being said, will Pro3 also work with my current base station or does that require the upgraded base?

@bullnose assuming you have the original VMB3000 base station, you won't be able to use Pro 3 cameras without a base station upgrade to at least the VMB4000

Steve, yes I have the VBM4000. I have seen so much information about who is and isn't having issues and whom is not loving their system. I just want to maximize my capabilities without having to purchase another base station if I don't have to. I've watched prices fluctuate on the packages, but rarely ever see them change on the individual cameras. But, since the Pro series has been discontinued, I'm looking to add without breaking the bank

Pro 3 cameras also require a subscription to record to your library. That's another consideration for the budget conscious user

Steve, I am currently subscribed with my Pro's which opened me up to 10 cameras of which I only have 7. With a bigger house we just moved in to, I'm am needing to cover a couple more angles and wouldn't mind them being better cameras if they are actually worth it

I like the Pro 3 but all the mounts are different. The batteries are different. The charging cable is different. The mounts being different is probably the most annoying thing for older camera users. They moved the magnet from the camera into the mount. This means you can no longer stick cameras to metal poles or boxes. I have Pro cameras sticking to my satellite dish pole and one to my air conditioning outdoor unit. Color night vision is a great addition for smaller areas but in wide open areas, it'll either still be better to turn the spotlight off and run in black and white with IR illumation or to supplement the light to the area. Sorry, what a wall of text

Another thing to look into as well is Arlo lights. For me they extend the area that can be activated. You can program any camera(s) to record when triggered. For me it has caused a couple of people to run off when all of a sudden lights come on.
The Arlo Cameras Group is where you can always find questions, answers, advice, reviews & recommendations from other community members about smart home security with the Arlo camera and alarm system.
