Hey everyone.  I'm looking to purchase a new surveillance system.Hey everyone. I'm looking to purchase a new surveillance system. I currently have the blink xt cameras. are the arlos a significant upgrade? I'm looking at the Arlo pro3 set. They look quite pricey and I'm wondering if they are worth the money? Also do I need a subscription and how's the battery life and Night Vision?

Not familiar with the Blink but yes you'll need a monthly subscription for the Pro 3 to get cloud recording. Color night vision works well in most situations. The Pro 3 Floodlight is about to be released for times when you need more light. Battery life has been surprisingly good but I don't typically get more than a dozen activations in a day. Full time power or a solar panel would be good for those high traffic area cams

@terrie Thanksng Is Cloud storage a must? I saw you could use stand alone storage via USB drives.

@pion5686 you can use local storage via USB drives and recently you've been able to access that storage through the app. With the old base station you had to remove the USB drive and plug it into a computer to see the contents. With the new smarthubs you can access the local storage. Still no preview thumbnail on local storage until you download the video though. Without the plan you also don't get activity zones and smart notifications

Put it this way. When I was looking for a system, one of the first things I was told from a friend in internet security was, ‘stay away from Blink, they’re junk. ” So, I’d say, if you’re happy with Blink, then Arlo will be a game changer for you! I love my Arlo system!

@aircrew Blink is ok but the night vision is atrocious imo.

I have blink inside and arlo outside. Theres no contest really, arlo is a million times better in every way (except battery but now solar panels keep my arlo at 100%) blink is ok for inside where they are not mounted at a high distance but the arlo every time for all round quality if you are prepared to pay a bit more

I have ARLO Pro2 and like them. I purchased them because of the free 7 day cloud storage. I upgraded to the subscription plan because it gave me 30 day cloud storage and more capabilities. All mine are power, because they are in high traffic areas.

@bloodless ah ok  I have seen the wired Swan but haven’t seen the wireless versions. Uniden I have only seen radar detectors and home telephones but not surveillance cameras.
