Technology is about to drive me crazy. I have ATT Uverse with a 5268ac router we have 2 smart tvs, ps4, 3 cell and 1 laptop and 6 arlo pro 3. Wifi has been horrible recently. Purchased a Linksys Ac1900 wifi extender that the website would handle up to 10, 000 sq ft but the box says up to 2500 sq ft. Would it be possible to upgrade to a better router and have better wifi? Can I get multiple extenders to help? We just recently purchased the cameras so I really want to keep them but geez not doing me any good with low service or no service.

Also a good router really makes a difference with organizing everything, I have over 50 different devices on my home WiFi network with no issues

@loupgarou858 ok so the extenders will not help at all with my cameras. I've been looking at Linksys Max Stream AC3000 as it is local to me and in stock and has good reviews. I have to keep the wifi on my cell turned off when I'm home as it will freeze up the entire house and I have a small 1200 sq ft house.

Well, it’s not usual to any phone to freeze a WiFi network, what do you mean by freeze? Slow your speeds? Crashes? You can not browse anything ?
by (980 points)
@loupgarou858 if my wifi is on on my phone, none of tvs streaming netflix or ps4 will work and other phone will not load fb or YouTube. As soon as I cut my wifi off everything in the house works great again.

Well, that seems a problem about your phone starts uploading tons of things, you should check first your phone config, maybe google photos, or iCloud, I don’t think it’s a network issue

@loupgarou858 ok thank you I will look into that or find someone else to do it. As this week with technology has about pushed every button I have.

Linksys velop system. The routers that your ISP offers are crap. I have the tri-node Velop system and have has no connectivity issues

@bullnose I've been looking at the Linksys Max Stream AC3000 its available locally to me and the reviews seem good.

@bullnose the velop system is amazing. We’ve had it for going on 4 years with zero issues and we run 20 devices at once, all streaming services (no cable) plus PlayStations with no problems

Arlo uses the base to connect the cameras, not your WiFi, so for the Arlo cameras is useless to get extenders
by (1.2k points)
@loupgarou858 you can use the extender to relocate the base to an area with better reception

I cant speak for extenders but mesh is awesome. And you can add as many extra access points as needed. We have a 3 floor large place. We have mesh force with a total of 4 access points.

Att is horrible in general 4 home service. What speeds u getting when doing speed tests? What speed to you pay 4?
by (980 points)
@informer I have no clue how to even check it. My internet plan is 18 mbps.
by (2.6k points)
@austronesia search google for speed test n you can run one. Btw that is pretty slow for all your devices. You should see what speeds are available.
by (2.6k points)
@austronesia you need faster speeds. Upgrade to at least 30 or higher
by (980 points)
@informer this is the fastest they offer in my city. We are still on old lines. If they do anything to bump my speeds up everything crashes.
by (2.6k points)
@austronesia sorry about that. Hopefully you can get some help from other members.
by (980 points)
@informer it's fine. I have to make do with what I have until better service comes along.

You may have too many devices on that router may need a better router or modem and router The one from my iSP's are garbage

@senzer10 Coyne I plan to buy a new router today. Just trying to figure out the best one for me and locally to me.

by (260 points)

by (980 points)

These are the options for modems and routers that are available for pickup today. Which do yall recommend?

Yep mine is very crappy. And to know I've been paying 70 a month for this speed and the new provider price is 86 a month and suppose to be so much better.
by (810 points)
@austronesia we pay 150/month.
by (980 points)
@bassist this one will be 115. 00 after the 1st year. It's the fastest option I have found for my area. A new provider is working to put in fiber lines but it doesn't work on my side of the city yet. The north and west side have it but east and south not enough interest.

@austronesia we don’t live anywhere where we have many options.
