Just installed an Arlo Pro 2 camera. I setup an activity zone to not capture the cars that drive by, because we live on a corner lot and the number passing cars each day is mind boggling. Today alone it recorded 354 events, how do I prevent this?

For you to have activity zones, you'll either need to run an outdoor power cable or pay for Arlo Smart. Your other options are to reposition the camera and adjust the motion sensitivity

@terrie interesting. Good to know, thanks! I presume the Arlo Smart is their paid subscription services? Just don’t want the battery drained in a week because it is constantly recording video.

Oh, sorry. The Arlo Smart paid subscription doesn't stop the battery draining. The camera will still detect and record. The recording is analyzed by Arlo Smart and discarded if the motion is outside your zone. You'll still have a battery issue. Positioning and motion sensitivity are going to be important even if you do get power to the camera or a solar panel to help recharge during the day

Get a solar panel, then you won’t have to worry about the battery draining. We have 3 panels and they are great.

@cookbook42 I’m not sure how much I want to invest in this system. Not 100% sold on it yet, for now I’ll swap batteries as needed. Our setup came with 2 cameras and we only have 1 up right now. Where it’s at, isn’t a great candidate for a solar panel to be installed.

Cheaper option would be to just turn your sensitivity down, or move the camera

I have been trying to figure this out too. I have turned down the sensitivity, made the zones smaller and every time a car goes by at night and their headlights brush the house it triggers the camera.

If you see the cars, then move the camera a bit to exclude them from its vision. Bright lights like headlights will activate any camera. I have my Arlos looking back at the house not looking away from the house towards a street.

Due to the limitations of the magnetic 1/2 dome that came with the kit, this is the best positioning I can achieve. I have ordered new mounts that will allow more flexibility in how the camera is mounted and the direction it is pointed. It is under the eves/guttering above the garage door, 98% of which is brick & stone.
