Oh yes. And no sales either. KRoger is having a mega sale, but it's rare that meat is on sale anymore. The other stores, aren't having any meat sales at all.

I've shopped at the store I go to for 20 years and know their prices. Store brand bleach was 1. 67. Now the cheapest I can get is 2. 99. Meat. if you can find it. not going on sale (thank God I bought a bunch before the poo hit the fan). Toilet paper. ha. Smh its shameful. Even the generic canned veggies have increased. Its even gotten to where they don't even have "sales" like they used to. Hard to budget and i do a lot of restructuring the menu based on what they have and what I can afford.

@pompidou girl. Yes, clorox made a change in all this and NO ONE is talking about it! They decreased their ounces dramatically and it COSTS MORE than even the Large containers. Um, can we say #companypricegouging
by (1.4k points)
Also, food companies pulled ads, not the stores :(

Meat has went up 300% in 3. 5 weeks (our cost) so oh yes. Then of course seasons changing in produce makes things wacky for a few weeks. Overall, grocery, dairy and frozen should stay stable. they're not going up any more than any other time. Deli meats are the next thing starting to be affected.

Sadly, yes. Many supermarket chains are giving employees more money to be on the front line. Rather than take it from profits, they opted to raise prices. Though I'm sure the companies they get their product from have also raised their prices, too.

Yes and less digital coupons too.

My sister and I were just discussing this. Yes, it's quite a bit higher here. Not as bad where she lives but still higher. When I add delivery and tip, it's disappointing.

2 months ago I could shop for my parents and my family and spend about $250. Now I can't get out of the store for under $325.

Prices are set by supply and demand, so it’s not unusual to see increases during a time when supply and demand have drastically changed. Disasters like pandemics also greatly affect supply and demand, and therefore prices as well

@vaporescence FoodsCo.

@interchange that's the one store I dislike, their prices have gone up the most
by (2.3k points)
@interchange at least you finding bacon! Our local store Publix in FL by me has none!

Yes, more dramatically here (small town) than in the next bigger city (an hour away). Our prices were already higher than theirs, and it's worse now.

Huge! My youngest son (21 yrs old) moved out at the begging of April and I was sure our groceries would go down in price. Well they have gone down in volume but certainly not saving much.
by (1.6k points)
@cyn6507 Mine too but he still comes by to get my food. Lol

Yes and no. I'm a personal shopper and see prices fluctuating. The one piece of advice I have is to stay away from Instacart, they increase the prices more than other delivery apps (Dumpling)
by (350 points)
@vaporescence this is true. We used instacart for awhile because we were completely isolating and the prices killed us. My husband finally started going into stores.

This is where sams and Costco has shined. I went to Kroger to get cereal and a few things yesterday and almost fell over $6 for a box box of cinnamon toast. I’ve been able to keep costs down thanks to bulk purchasing.

I saw Walmart selling a box of 25 masks for I think $17 that seems a bit excessive
by (840 points)
@benildis4401 bjs sells a box of 50 masks for 37. 99. I think that also seems expensive. Then you got the Facebook marketplace pirates selling a 10 pack for $20.

It's more been the lack of sales than the actual pricing. I always used the weekend sales at Smith's to stock up on stuff, and they are not doing those right now. They are starting their buy 5 sales up this week, so hopefully things start to return to normal there. I also haven't been to Costco since the pandemic began as I didn't want to stand in line to get into the store, and my membership expired so I will need to renew it when I go in, and the $60 for it is just a little much right now with my husband's salary having been cut, and his other 2 side gigs have been cut to $0 as well.

The price of meat is crazy high. and that’s if you can even get it. Our meat coolers have been consistently cleaned out for a couple weeks now

I actually work for a grocery store so when the fresh meat slowly disappeared . I started buying our 1lb ground turkey and ground beef frozen rolls. Now they are limited 2 per family. So I've been buying 2 everyday for the past 3 days. I have 4 kids in my household. I am stocked on ground beef. We can do without the pork we hardly ever bought that to begin with.

Meat prices are being gouged.
by (920 points)
@crevice168 they aren't being gouged. At least not all. There are meat plants with covid break outs. It's been all over the news. They are short on staff. Plus everyone is home eating. So mushy elements at play here. Tho I'm sure some are taking advantage.
by (920 points)
It totally sucks! This whole situation is awful
by (1.3k points)
@hazel57 I heard a local beef rancher discussing it on the radio this morning. It's happening. Not in every state, but it's happening.

Land o Lakes butter looks like they are using less. The sticks are rounded at the ends and don’t even fill the pack. There will be a class action suit filed about this because they have not changed the packaging information and lawyers are going to search for cases to make up for lost revenue. oh but I digress. Yes I have noticed higher prices.

Yep. Read an article yesterday prices are up 2. 6% or something close to that.

Yes, incredibly! Grocery stores are still with empty shelves but when you find something the prices are ridiculous. I wonder if they’ll come back down (doubt it). Anyway, it’s helping me to lose weight. Lol

Increase in prices and lower quality in Walmart's milk. Since the COVID-19, I've every single one of my milk purchases spoil very quickly. (1/2 gal. and full gallon) Never in my 20+ years of shopping have I had to worry about milk spoiling like this - name brand or great value brand. I just dumped chunky milk down the drain today and the expiration is May 17th. So frustrating!
by (1.2k points)
@chrystel Kemp Same. My milk from the 1st was spoiled by the 11th with an expiration of the 14th. But I had accidentally bought another gallon Friday so was happy there was a back up. Since we live 25 miles from the nearest grocery store.

Heck yes! I don't if its necessarily that the prices went up, i just see that the stores are running sales on items like they used to. I would shop the ads each week and work my dinner menu for the following week based on the sales, but I can't do that anymore.

I am disabled and mostly do my shopping online, always have even before covid hit. So now with so many more people doing the same, I see a definite rise in prices and lack of availability making it harder to get the reasonably priced items I would prefer. :(

Australia: not particularly but there have been fewer home brands available, bumping up the cost of shopping
