The virus cant survive over a temp of 26°

@divagate the soap in the washing powder will break the virus particle. It will dissolve the lipid in the virus particle. The link i posted further down explains it better than me :)

@divagate why hasn’t it died in Australia?
by (5.5k points)
@divagate your body temp is around 37°c. so if it didnt like above 26° it wouldn't survive in your body.

Hot and cold temps do not kill the virus

Use normal washing powder soap and water kills covid 19 that’s why we’re advise to wash our hands over and over.

The nurses say it's the soap that breaks down the outer layer & effectively kills the virus, hence the hand washing. I'd advocate sticking with your normal detergent.

Normal detergent should be fine but soda crystals may help as they're good for hard water

Soap does not kill a virus. . Heat kills it, alcohol kills it, antibacterials do nothing to it! If you had a flu would you take an anti-biotic? No cus it does not kill a virus, an anti-biotic is an anti bacterial. Viruses and bacteria have completely different make ups. When we wash our hands, we aren't killing the bacteria, we are washing it off of our skin. Removing the bacteria from our skin into the sink, down the drain etc. The virus cannot live on a surface for a lengthy period of time which is why it is advocated to wash your hands. If it is on your hands then you are more than likely to ingest it and allowing it into your body. So washing your hands to remove the virus (not kill it) is the safest thing to do.

@rutland774 soap breaks the virus. It is to do with the lipids. I will post a link

Fiona White thanks Fiona I will look it up

@rutland774 Why does soap work so well on the SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus and indeed most viruses? Because it is a self-assembled nanoparticle in which the weakest link is the lipid (fatty) bilayer. A two part thread about soap, viruses and supramolecular chemistry. The soap dissolves the fat membrane and the virus falls apart like a house of cards and “dies”, or rather, we should say it becomes inactive as viruses aren’t really alive. Viruses can be active outside the body for hours, even days.

I don’t know but the Zoflora will kill your clothes and the soda crystals will ruin your washing machine. Your call.

What my friend does who works with contagious stuff she is a virologist. Sshe normally soaks her clothes in a bucket full of hot soapy water with some sort of disinfectant. She then put them in on a hot wash 60 with bio if you have kids make sure the clothes are rinsed well. She then puts the washer on the highest wash cycle empty with disinfectant to disinfect the washer. Also wash all the outside and let the thing dry out.

It needs to be at least 60 to kill this virus. Remember hot countries have this virus also so to say it will disappear in the summer months is ridiculous. 60+ and I always put zoflora or something similar in my wash. Xx

Yes fine, the virus has a fatty casing so the soap alone will break it down and get rid of it.
