Anyone have any tried and true pearls of wisdom on how to get the stank out of clothes? Took a shower, put on workout clothes, because I'm too afraid to put real pants on. I got on the scale, not my brightest idea, and oh mi gatos I'm the biggest I've ever been. Anywhoo, I was sitting here questioning what that smells was. It was me, it was my workout clothes. When I said something to my husband, he said he's noticed the same thing about his workout clothes. Halp! No one likes a stinky stinkerton!

Do all of your clothes smell like that? Or just the workout clothes?
by (12.3k points)
Just workout.
by (12.3k points)
So assuming the bacteria from sweating, but yes, just workout clothes.

I had that happen once- but it was because I didn’t let dry properly and folded. And than when I washed again it was fine. Maybe some Sunshine would help? People always tell me put it out in the sun! Kinda like the windex in my big fat Greek wedding. Lol

I use the Lysol detergent sometimes. Target has had some stock recently. Let me know if you want to try it and I can give you some.

Didn't know they had detergent! Possibly, I can also see if I can get some of my own first.

Baking soda? Vinegar? Is it your washer that’s making everything smell? I use a product called Glisten from Amazon that’s good at getting the funk out of washers - and then I run the clean cycle. P. S. Your posts always make me laugh, so thanks for that ❤️

Bless you, I shirley do try. I sometimes put my washer on the clean cycle with the cleaning solvent you get from the store and sometimes just vinegar. It's only my workout clothes.

Check your washing machine it could use a clean cycle or has mold. I make sure to run the clean cycle every month or so and always leave it open to dry.

@circumfluous53699 good call on this ☝

I do those things too. Clean it out and leave open to dry when not in use. Its just my workout clothes.

If you buy this stuff and soak your workout clothes in it, you will be disgusted at what comes out. I use this for all stinky stuff. It costs a lot but it’s the only thing I have found that works. Then after soaking a while you wash as usual.

I'm scared. Especially for some of my older workout clothes.

@jawbreaker31 ha! It IS scary

I use a Tide that's specifically made for activewear. Haven't had any stinky issues since.

I use the oxiclean powder stuff that you add to your wash with the detergent. I run a lot and have never had a stink issue with my clothes.
by (12.3k points)
You run a lot, even when no one is chasing you? What's that like?
by (4.5k points)
@jawbreaker31 I swear it’s the Oxiclean! I have friends who say the same thing, that they can’t get their workout clothes to not stink. literally never had the issue. When my shoes get nasty I throw them In the wash, too. (Just don’t dry then or it breaks down the foam). Same thing, stink is gone.

Adding baking soda into the washing machine helped us de-funk some smelly towels more than once!

I like this.
by (12.3k points)
I used that a couple times. Could try again, never really paid attention if it worked. I'm assuming it did the trick!

It's just my workout clothes and some of them have had some miles on them/they're old but still do the trick. I clean my washer with the powder you get from the store or vinegar and put on the clean cycle a lot. I think it's just the bacteria from my fat spots sweating. My normal clothes don't stink.

I use baking soda and vinegar. Unfortunately any detergent with added scent makes me puke when I’m exercising, literally. Do not recommend, ppl stare at you when that happens.

That made me laugh.

@jawbreaker31 my son played hockey for years and the only thing that really helped was Downy Unstoppables in the wash cycle. If it can kill teen boy hockey stench, it should work for your workout stuff!

Oxyclean! You can also run a load of hot water and bleach (no clothes) to clean out the washer.

This stuff helps. I do a heaping scoop with hot water, and the first time I used it I ran the load twice (with a heaping scoop each time). Seems to keep that weird workout funk at bay. I only use it for workout clothes and underwear bc it’s expensive (and other clothes don’t smell bad), but the scoop is tiny so it lasts forever.

Bleach, oxy, a drop of dawn. Vinegar too but do NOT mix it with bleach. :)
