Just shock it and use the pool brush.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 i don't have a brush. lol. won't that just push the dirt around and it settle back on the bottom?
by (5.1k points)
They always look like that after winter. Get your pump running and shock it. The pump will get most of it and help it along with your net. It’s algae and dirt. The shock will take care of that with the pump going.

@calpac0 I've already shocked it last week and pump has been running a week already! Want it ready for Memorial Day. Lol. I should shock it every week right?
by (5.1k points)
I'm new to this pool maintenance thing. Lol
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 also its chlorine tab in it
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen . Clean the pump. How big is it and what kind of pump? Last resort is drain it.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen Shock comes in a packet. I never used tablets. Just dump it in the water.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 I did all that already lol. Its a 15 foot round pool.
by (5.1k points)
Something is wrong. Can you show me the pump? Take a pic.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 no I have chlorine tablets, I have bag shock
by (5.1k points)
Is the water going through the skimmer on the pump?
by (5.1k points)
Ok. that’s good. It’s the pump. You have to clean them out of the junk.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 I just did tonight
by (5.1k points)
But the crap is stuck to bottom. I will go buy a soft brush
by (5.1k points)
Oh boy. It’s not a regular pool. It’s a blow up and you might need to buy a new pump. I had the regular metal ones with the huge filters. I don’t think they cost much. Look on Amazon or Walmart.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 this is not a blow up pool. Lol. Its vinyl.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen Try that . but the shock should of done something.
by (5.1k points)
I use the tall A or D filters.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 it did, this is how it looked when I first filled it.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen Sorry. it’s vinyl. Not the better pools. My daughter had that and they don’t last long.
by (5.1k points)
It was clear an hour after I put shock in it. That was last week.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen Omg. no that little pump isn’t working. Check Amazon.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 I'm assuming its cause its still cold out and it will get better as the Temps get warmer.
by (5.1k points)
You have to keep the motor running every day. At least 5 hours. It’s been cold and rainy. Did it have a cover on it for the winter?
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen No just the opposite. Heat and sun bring more algae.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 it worked fine all last summer. Part of the winter it was covered. But there was never more than 5 or 6 inches of water in it all winter. I couldn't drain it completely but im going to buy a drain hose for this fall.
by (5.1k points)
The pump runs all day, every day.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 I have no trees anywhere near my pool. During the summer it gets shocked once a week and a new chlorine tablet when it gets close to being gone. I test the water with test kit two or three times a week.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen I used my garden hose lol. Had a huge pool too. It doesn’t take much. This sound odd but hook your hose up and turn it on. make sure the hose is stretched out. and let it run for a minute or 2 to get the suction going. very fast remove the hose. put your hand over the hose top. so the air don’t escape. run and put the hose in the pool. and it will drain.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen . You know I never bothered with those test kits. Drove me crazy. I just could tell by looking at the water if it needed to be shocked.
by (5.1k points)
@newcomen by the way the pumps for your pool isn’t that much money. Unlike mine that was big bucks.
by (5.1k points)
Sorry I couldn’t help more.
by (5.1k points)
@calpac0 its ok. Thanks for the advise.
by (5.1k points)
Im gonna start with the broom and see what happens
by (5.1k points)
I understand the size. A good pump for above ground metal pools are $1, 000. Your little filter isn’t working right. I only know the big filters. What I know of yours is my daughter had one for her kids. The pump didn’t last long. Sorry. maybe someone’s knows more about your kind of pool.
by (5.1k points)
Your welcome. Sure wish I could of helped more.

You need a pool vacuum that goes into the skimmer. The vacuum has a long pole with a brush and hose on it. As you vacuum the bottom scrub with the brush it will go up the long hose into the skimmer. Every so often you clean out the skimmer and continue till the whole bottom is done. Then you go up the sides with the vacuum with the brush. The whole time have water running into the pool. When done shock with chlorine and run the pump at least 5 hours a day till the water is clear. If not start again vacuuming. Don't let it go on because the algae gets bad it's very hard to get rid of it. The hotter it is the algae gets worse. It will smell and draw mosquitoes. Check your pool water for chemicals for the right pa. Got to get it clean before you have swimmers it make them sick. Then you have to run that pool every day for 4 hours and every other day vacuum it. Pool are alot of fun but alot of work. I know we had a pool for 30 years my husband was the pool man, I was the wash the bathing suits and towel lady.

@gwenngwenneth She doesn’t have a regular big filter. It’s a small one with the vinyl pools.
by (5.1k points)
@gwenngwenneth I don't have skimmers.

They sell chargeable vacuums for $100. That’s what I use.
by (5.1k points)
@wilhoit66 thanks
by (5.1k points)
@wilhoit66 so my dad is ordering me the Pool Blaster that you have tonight.
by (5.3k points)
@newcomen I don’t have that particular one. I bought mine at Menards for $100. I was just trying to give you the idea of those kind of vacuums. Mine is that just not that brand. I’ve had mine for 5 years. I have no idea the exact brand it is? Its all weathered out. I can’t see the name on it.
by (5.1k points)
@wilhoit66 is it this one
by (5.3k points)
@newcomen no but that looks better than the one I have!

What kind of pool is that? You like it? I’m looking for a pool?

Depends on what horsepower pump you are using. There are many types of vacuums. Do not just shock the pool it will eat the liner. There is a pool shark you can buy it will clean the bottom of your pool by itself. They also have the battery vacuums they work ok. There are scrubbers. Just make sure your chlorine and PH are at good levels. That looks like an intex pool.
by (5.1k points)
@pedagogics yes it is an Intex. I love it! I'm going to attempt a rechargeable vacuum with a brush.
by (1.8k points)
@newcomen that will work. Best of luck.
by (5.1k points)
@pedagogics just bought this today! It worked great!
