I kill all the flowers and plants I have. There are a few that come back every year and seem to do ok. I really do try but think maybe I’m over feeding? Or they are in the wrong soil? Anyway, I have some new flower beds, do I fill with soil or compost? Also what bushes/plants are nice but easy to look after? X

We find it works well for plants that come back every year to mix compost and top soil, the top solid gives it some substance as compost is usually very light. It depends what sort of space you have, whether it’s in sun or shade and the look you’re going for ? For bullet proof and easy Ferns give greenery and interest, both of these are ferns, no feeding needed and very little watering. As far as feeding goes follow the guidelines on the feed you’re buying, some are a weekly water in feed, others are slow release so last a number of weeks but also don’t feel you have to keep feeding, I’ve gone a lot of seasons in the past without bothering to feed at all.
