Just wondering what your approach is: Do you set all your serch campaigns as Maximize Conversion/Target CPA/Target ROAS or do you have some running with Manual CPC/Maximize Clicks?

I start with manual CPC. Once I get some conversations then I continue with a maximize conversion until I have enough conversions. Then I happily set target CPA/target ROAS.

So nobody actually has a constant flow of TOF users? Everyone jumps to conversions?

Based upon your goals. You will then choose best combinations

I agree with @witting95 - I start with manual CPC. I just find that I have more control and can build more reliable momentum within a new campaign that way. Then once the momentum is there and more data is available for Google, I usually switch to maximize clicks or or maximize conversions.

Got the arguments and do it like that too, sometimes. Quite slow as a tactic, though.

Start with maximize clicks if on a fresh account, then adjust and optimize continually with manual CPC. No automation unless a lot of traffic (lots of data), but I work with lead generation for local businesses, so manual has the best ROAS.
