“Have willpower and follow the rules” is basically the worst advice. Of course everyone wants that but how do you do it? 1) cook ahead. Get 7 Tupperware bowls and do a cooking day each week. 2) Reduce the number of decisions between you and your goal by preparing ahead for whatever trouble you have 2) get Janeva’s cookbook. Try new things. Figure out what your favorites are and do those! 3) get on a water or tea routine to enhance your feeling or fullness with each meal 4) set a tiny goal for every week. You can achieve this goal easily will set a stream of goals you keep achieving which will set you up right 5) take your vitamins. Get a 4x day pill dispenser so you know if you’re forgetting 6) make one day a “cheat day” when you can enjoy the more calorie/fat laden IP products. Texas turtle muffin yum! 7) figure out what you can make with stuff like chicken soup, chocolate pudding, etc (all of the ones with fewer calories and carbs. I make buns out of chicken soup and mushroom broccoli burgers, I got skinny syrup flavors to add to chocolate pudding and I make popsicles and muffins 8) make sure you understand where different products fall on the glycemic index - I’m sure someone has a chart here. Stick to mostly green/low GI items. 9) get a buddy to help keep you motivated 10) do your research online 11) read the end of overeating. That book kicked my butt. I feel like the food industry has been against me from the beginning, using psychological techniques to make sure I’m addicted and now they are my enemy and I will fight back

I will add to the "get the cookbook". Get the cookbook and go through it with a pen and paper and write down what you need to have on hand to make what looks good to you.

I can see why the cookbook helps people who are not inclined to cooking their own food, but as someone who doesn’t follow many recipes and is pretty comfortable in the kitchen-I think the cookbook is a waste of money. It endorses a lot of the Walden farms products that I think are terrible tasting, ranch dressing and mayo shouldn’t taste like sugar. Additionally, I don’t think this way of cooking is practical or sustainable long term. Studies show that eating whole foods is better for you. Fake sugars still make you crave sugar. I would say it’s easier to be more successful keeping things simple. It’s easy to throw a bunch of veggies (asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower were my go to) and a piece of chicken/fish/pork in the oven for 20 minutes. A steam bag of veggies with my lunch packet were easy. You can change seasonings to keep things interesting. Also i could throw tater tots or something on the side for my BF and not worry about being too tempted, while he could still get what he wants. If I got really bored, and yes it does get boring, but it is far less stressful to worry about what you need to “meal prep” you could try a fun recipe with substitutions. Crock pot fajitas were one of my favorites. I would just eat from a bowl with lettuce and no tortilla. Also a pressure cooker and air fryer are a way better investment than the cookbook in my opinion. I personally don’t find fake tasting foods appetizing.

@ziagos excellent advice! I just finished my 14th week. Down 38. 7 pounds and have 6 pounds more to reach my goal. I've been quarantined for 6 of those 14 weeks and this past week was the first week where I have felt hungry. Not much changed except feeling a little bored. I didn't slip but I was tempted for the first time. Your advice will probably help whomever reads it, so thank you!

There are a ton of non-WF recipes in there that are great. And sometimes when you cook with the WF products they actually taste pretty good. I’m going to be replacing my ketchup and syrup in daily life with WF in maintenance forex.

Also, @forego I think you happened to list the *worst* WF products :p

I mean one thing that always kept me motivated was the fact that I didn’t want to fail. Determination and will power should help you through it well enough. If that doesn’t just stick to the paper. If you think about other foods, read the paper, not on there? Don’t think about it lol

I have a goal at the end of this ! That is very motivating for me. Mine is to be light enough to have knee replacement surgery- losing weight will help pain too but ultimately I still need the surgery even if normal body weight. So do I want to cheat and prolong the time it takes to get 60lbs off? Having some big goal is very motivating!

@pageantry I had a knee replacement in 2017 and I managed to peel off 40+ lbs in the 10 weeks prior to surgery. I phased off for the surgery any recovery period, but I was very mindful of carbs and kept all of the weight off. It made a HUGE difference in the recovery process for the new knee.

Look at photos of yourself - whatever motivates you. Either you “before” starting IP or at your highest weight (don’t want to be “there” again! ) or else a photo of you from the past at your best (“that’s” what I’m aiming for! ). Even put it on the fridge - remember that each decision you make is either getting you a step closer (or further) from your ideal self.

It is soo slow only 8 pounds in almost a month. My friend lost almost 17 in the same time. And I’m way more disciplined . What’s the deal
by (850 points)
@clos988 Renning check your net carbs in your journal, see if you ate over 40 net carbs and if you are change it up
by (420 points)
How do you check net carbs in the journal?
by (19.2k points)
@clos988 Renning Aww, I know it's hard, but please do not compare yourself with others. You have your own metabolism! And 8lbs in a month, that's Great! What other diet could you have done so well! Keep it up!
by (4.2k points)
@clos988 Renning 8 to 10 pounds in a month is the average weight loss on IP. 17 pounds in a month is not usual

Eat the sheet. This protocol boosts your immune system. It is good for you, mostly in Pandemic times.

Every body is different. I've almost fallen off the wagon several times but then I think of all the money I have spent to get where I am and I refuse to give up until I reach my goal. Hang in there. We can all do it!

Eating the pancake for breakfast. I can't explain it, but it gets me back on track.

I agree-what a WASTE of MONEY-if you cheat! An idea my coach told me to do-Wear a pair of pants or jeans that are snug because you have gained weight. If you are currently wearing yoga pants or sweats or PJS-you do not FEEL the weight! Makes you more cognitive of the extra!
by (1.7k points)
@hough9 ya, I’m lucky if I even get out of my pjs all day. Maybe I will start doing this.
by (4.4k points)
@hough9 I get dressed, maybe jeans or yoga pants. Put on minimum makeup and it helps me structure my day.

Make going off not an option. These are my options xxxx and nothing else. Usually just checking off my options gets me through the moment

I remind myself that 4 or even 6 months will pass quickly. How do I want to feel? Same as I do now or 40 to 60 pounds lighter? I don’t remember what I ate yesterday - but I remember how I looked and felt ☺️
