I’m starting to weigh myself everyday when I get up. I know there are others who do this. Can you share your reasoning and how it helps?

I weight everyday when I get up ! I bring my scale on vacation and I feel it keeps me in check just as much as tracking ! End of story

Nothing irrational about it. It helps me understand my body’s reactions to what I eat and when I eat it. I find that it usually takes a couple of days for a reaction so journaling gives me a way to look back. If I reduce the number of restricted meals I eat in a week do I lose faster? Does it help if I eat more fish? I think it’s a great idea.

I do this as well. After waking. Keeps me focused and sets tone for the day. Just know it will fluctuate with water weight but in general should go down weekly if not daily. Good luck!

Same here but depends on your personality. I Do it every morning and it keeps me on track. Others don’t like it because they get upset if they don’t see movement downward

Second time on IP as I didn’t have access to a coach who knew how to maintenance off the first time and I’m not weighing at home, at all. The scale at my current clinic is very accurate and measures all of the other aspects in addition to lbs. so I’m happy to see progress when I go. I can tell with clothing I’m losing and the day to day “up and down” is otherwise tedious to me of daily weighing. Follow the Sheet, don’t cheat and it will happen. It helps me to focus on something else besides a daily number.

I am able to realize when I’m retaining water. I can see what I ate the days before and adjust my meals. I tend to bloat with certain foods. Plus when I cheat it shows up on the scale 2 days later. Makes me stick to my plan better

I do it for accountability. I am in maintenance. I lost 120 lbs doing IP and have maintained for 2 years. I feel that weighing myself daily keeps me on track and helps like others said to see if I did gain where I need to re-evaluate. I did not weigh myself daily until I got closer to goal. I fluctuate so much and it was frustrating. Didn’t derail me but upsetting for sure. The week before my period I retain water and even if 100% on track I don’t lose or I gain sometimes! But the week after I lose. I think it’s good to weigh yourself daily to journal and know your body even better. Like for me I stay away from red meat. It causes me to bloat and I gain.

I do it to keep on track. Also, to see what is working for me, like others have said. Alternately, anytime I have had any weight gain, I also wasn’t checking in on my weight regularly. I had previously gone from 266-218 on another diet plan, this is when I started to add daily weigh in, though I only use my Wednesday weight as the “official” number. I was able to maintain for a few years within 5-10 pounds. Eventually I crept up over 230 and I knew it was time to get back in track. I also don’t use the scale as my only metric for success. The way my clothes fit, measurements, energy levels, bloating, etc, are all ways I measure my success. The scale just gives you a number and it doesn’t tel the whole story. It can’t account for muscle mass (unless you have a pretty fancy one) constipation, water retention around my period, or if a stall is actually a stall. So take everything into account. It’s taken me years and I still have days where I see the number on the scale and that’s all I can focus on. I need the reminder of how far I’ve come and I get that from my amazing network, but also of pictures of myself.

I do NOT! Only makes me a slave to my scale. Once week is enough.

It does not help. it causes additional stress to your body and can actually make you not loose weight . once a week is sufficient
by (510 points)
@collectivity , I’m curious about how it can make you not lose weight?
by (30.7k points)
@trichloroethylene my coach told me that the stress of weighing yourself daily can actually give wrong signals to your body and you will not lose. because I was weighing daily and when I stopped the weight really came off . went from losing 1 lbs a week to 5lbs. maybe it does not affect everyonr but for me it does
by (510 points)
@collectivity , thanks for sharing and best of luck!

@trichloroethylene my pleasure  to you as well

Personally I think it can set you up for failure. I think it's fun to go in and get weighed and just see how you did. And some weeks you might not lose but loses inches.

I am 2 years in maintenance. I weigh every day. Keep the focus to keep the weight off.
by (30.7k points)
@cask76799 but this is a Phase 1 Group. not a maintenance group
by (3.2k points)
@cask76799 I am on maintenance but still eat like phase 1. Hey, there is no way I want this weight back on. I have new summer clothing I bought on sale last year!
by (2.6k points)
@collectivity Hey , we are all in this together. We learn from those whom have been there.
by (30.7k points)
Weighing yourself daily in phase 1 is not a good thing and should not be encouraged that is my point
by (830 points)
@loathsome995 - I think its helpful for everyone here to realize that those who are successful in maintenance will eating VERY similarly to the way they did in phase one. For life.
by (4.2k points)
@interrelate547 I am in maintenance and I don’t eat like phase 1. I don’t think it is sustainable. Eat well. Yes. Healthy? Yes. All food groups? Yes. Like p1. No. (I do weigh regularly)

For maintenance , I think it is a must. If you are on Phase 1 , and it frustrates you (because all of us have fluctuation, especially us women), then I advise you to wait until your "weigh in " with Coach. BUT as someone celebrating 3 years of Maintenance, I will tell you it is as important as keeping track of your Bank balance(checking account) . It is" weight management". If we ignore it, we will get in trouble.

Nope. Once a week. The morning of weigh-in day.

I weigh every day to see how my body reacts to different foods I eat. It's been very good for me and never causes any stress for me. If I have a slight gain or stay the same, I look at my food diary and see what I've eaten that may cause that. This whole process should be more than weight loss--it should be a learning experience for us to learn what foods our bodies use to stay healthy. I only log my weight once a week, but I check it every morning.

Depends on your personality. I know if I don’t face the number each day I can go completely overboard. If the number is good it keeps me motivated. If its bad I can rein myself back in quickly. I’ve been in maintenance for over a year now now back on phase 1 to lose an extra 15.

You should weigh yourself everyday in maintenance. It’s not necessary if Phase 1, but I do it anyway! I like to see how certain foods affect my body (weight gain, water retention, inflammation, etc).

Personally, I watched my father weigh himself daily and the number on the scale affected his moods for the day. It was awful for us. He was consumed by self loathing due to his weight, and when the scale showed a gain we all suffered. I do believe it can be used as a tool to aid in seeing the bigger picture of what is happening but I only weigh once a week to avoid getting emotionally invested in that number (but that’s what I know to be part of my personality so I avoid what I know causes me anxiety).

I think it’s a HORRIBLE idea, once a week is more than enough it’s just a #! It’s more about how you feel and being confident with your success so far and knowing you are committed to the process☺️

I weigh every day. I use it as information. It helps me know what my body responds to well and not so well. It also keeps me in check with my water intake because if I didn’t drink much the day before, it shows in the morning on the scale! Plus keeps me motivated

This morning I woke up at 1am and weighed. Woke up again at 530 and had lost 2. 2 lbs. That puts me up 1/2 lb more than yesterday. Say What? I'm not doing that again.

I have weighed myself every day since I started (and finished) IP. It motivates me, keeps me in line, and if I reach that 4-5lb gain limit, I know to re-calibrate how I'm eating or even whether I need a 2-4 week reboot.

I weigh twice a week, Wednesday's and Saturday's. Any more than that and you'll make yourself crazy as your body naturally fluctuates from day to day based upon fluid intake, sodium, what you eat, and how much you move.

Seeing the scale every day helps me get through the times in the day I’m tempted to have something non-protocol. I keep a mental picture in my mind of where I started, where I am, and where I want to be.

I do it too, it doesn’t always help. Often its disappointing, as I went up 3 pounds with zero cheats since August. As long as you don’t let it define your progress and you are able to stay positive.

I do it it helps me stay on track and for me I get excited every morning when I see it go down. And if it doesn’t I know not to mess up bc I want it to go down the next day

I do it too. It helps me stay on protocol. I keep only one time. Just mornings before breakfast everyday

I weigh every day and as soon as I stop, it is always because I’m cheating. Even when the scale doesn’t move or goes up (ack! ) I find the daily weigh-in process cathartic and motivational. Food tells a story. I like watching how different foods affect my weight loss, inflammation, digestion, hydration. On steak days I always gain a fair bit but 2 days later I have a bigger loss. But I can’t eat steak/beef every day or it does cause a long term gain. Sometimes the body wants a light fish or tofu day and other days it loves a juicy steak. ♥️
by (520 points)
@concatenation 100% this, I find I avoid the skill to what I'm not making the right choices because subconsciously I don't want to see what's happening on the scale. But if I weigh every single day, I always keep myself on track. And yes, I find that tofu and fish help me lose better than steak or pork Etc!
by (2.2k points)
@concatenation yes my reasoning also! When I stop weighing daily is when the scale goes up. I’m ok with the daily fluctuations and this keeps me in the right path. When I don’t it’s because I’m putting my head in the sand and don’t want to know. Never good results for me.

I do it everyday. I don’t get caught up in the numbers but it helps me stay on track. I can adjust a little here and there. When I didn’t weigh myself I could pack on 10 pounds before I knew it.

Don't - stay on plan, and only WI once a week. Sometimes the scale is not always our best friend and does not tell you how well you are actually doing. That can be discoraging and lead you to temptation and go off the rails.

I would weigh like every 3 days. For myself, it was to help keep me on track. The scale tells u what u need to know. it held me accountable.

Your body's weight is its lowest at first thing in the morning before you eat before you drink and after your first bowel movement

@nicolanicolai right before I shower. That’s the time to weigh!

I have weighed everyday after having health problems and realizing that many of the problems was being caused by food. In my research I discovered that food that causes you inflammation (increase in weight). Is food that I should not eat or eat in moderation. In doing the IP restricted diet, I have discovered the foods that my body reacts negatively too.

I weigh every morning as well. It just helps me stay on track and make little adjustments when needed.
by (4.6k points)
What @splashboard said ^^. it is way easier to get it together if youre a pound or two over, than to wait and you're *suddenly* 10-20 lbs over. most women DO NOT GET ON THE SCALE. to me, it is a recipe for denial. denial usually leads to weight gain.
by (510 points)
@mahan @isochronism93 Gross I definitely found that out over the holidays.
by (4.6k points)
OMG. so happy. please use the scale. it keeps us accountable. 1, 000 people say not to, but i KNOW them to be wrong! you dont need to get on daily. once or twice a week is just fine. you want to be accountable to your progress. Just get on the same day and same time every week.

I do this. It helps me see how I retain water from particular foods and how my body responds to medical treatments, injuries, etc. I want to learn how to care for myself better and understand my uniquenesses and what triggers certain responses.

I do because it helps me. Know how much I'm losing daily and what I may have done the other day that affect weight los. Like I either ate more than I should have and it helps show me right on the scale that my choices weren't exactly the best. It also helps me figure out what vegetables or Meats might be affecting my weight loss like I can eat a lot of Seafood and lose weight, but if I start eating steaks, my weight loss gets stopped or slowed.

I don’t think it helps and no reason to play mental games with yourself. Don’t focus on it! Focus on daily food intake and life, and you will be more happy to see results once a week

I do. It’s motivational, and even on the days where I gain or don’t lose (like the last 3 days) it motivates me to make sure I’m being strict and following things to a T. So far it’s been motivational and helpful for me, but I can also see the other side.

It’s like a tiny reward every day for the hard work. And when it stays at the same number or when I jump up 2 pounds like it did this morning it’s just fascinating to see how the body works. I actually drew a happy face on my scale and I have a great relationship with it. It’s a tool and it’s also my little friend ha ha Ha!

Before I eat or have anything to drink in the morning I have a routine. First I look in the mirror (no clothes on) and THEN I weigh myself. Every day. I now can predict what is going to be on the scale after looking at my image before stepping on. Within . 2 of a pound. I never travel with a scale. I just look at myself and know. Also, if I am up in weight and doing perfect protocol, I know why. (Probably hormones) I know my body so well. I can remember from the day before what I ate and what put that weight on or helped me lose a pound.
by (3k points)
@sink funny I sort of do the same thing. I look at myself in the mirror before I step on the scale, and usually I’m pleased with what’s happening, and by doing this I am not letting the number on the scale decide if I have a good day or a bad day. If I feel good, and it’s up a little, I still know I feel good and don’t let it shape my day.

After reading the comments there are 3 schools of thought: never weigh, weight 2x a week, and weigh daily. Do what works for you! I have always weighed daily & will do so even tho the coach advised not to - there’s no reason to discuss it with her, so it doesn’t come up. It it my daily motivation to cheer myself on, to adjust to more unrestricted foods & water that day, and just to know I’m caring about myself and my health. It doesn’t stress or disrupt my life. That’s what works for me‼️
