Drove past Tam this morning, and you can see all the flooding and their sprinklers were on. Seems like a waste of water?

We are currently utilizing the water irrigation system to wash the river silt and debris off the fairways. The staff there at Tam is working very hard to get the course cleaned up, and we’re looking forward to seeing all of you back on the course really soon!

@atmospheric2250 can you report this to someone at Tam?

@rollo6343 thanks for tagging me. I responded as a comment below. See you in the neighborhood again really soon I hope!

@atmospheric2250 it made more sense to let someone from NPD know. Hope to see you soon too!

They probably don’t even know bc they’re on timers. I’d call the park district

@jolandajolanta. I would think they should know that they have timers. Mistakes happen

@demigod8 I mean if no ones there they probably didn’t even think about it- kinda like the sirens that go off every month and I know they’re scheduled for 10am on the first Monday of the month but I always forget about it until I hear them

@lael5 my mistake! I didn’t see anyone in sight when I drove by yesterday since the entire parking lot was under water and chained off. I didn’t think the water would have gone down by now! Like I said before though, I’d just call and let them know incase they forgot to turn them off

@jolandajolanta my son works there and has been at work

Yeah the timers haven’t been shut off or the sprinkler rain sensor failed.

I believe they apply a treatment to get all the river water junk off the greens and the sprinklers may be used to rinse the greens- just a thought not a certainity

The sprinklers are on to wash the silt off the greens so the grass doesn’t die

Thank you for clarifying.

It’s just in case the rain missed a spot.

Clearly your not a golfer. lol! Did you notice how brown the grass is? That’s mud or dried mud from the river water. No golfer wants to walk thru that. It’s not a waste of water.

@klipspringer all i saw was flooding as we drove down Caldwell and sprinklers going all over. No Im not a golfer. I was curious.

Whole grass was under water and sprinklers was shooting from under waterthis is big time waste of water! It make more sense to turn ON the sprinklers after big water is gone.

Tam's location on the river provides us with an endless source of water! Our irrigation sprinkler system pumps take water from the river and that's what we use to water the grass, but also clean up a major flood event such as this one. The process is to over irrigate and then squeegee the river silt and debris off the tee boxes and fairways. The Tam grounds crew's have perfected this process, and doing this greatly reduces our downtime after flood events. We are so fortunate for our little sweet spot on the river!

@atmospheric2250 great answer as well as extremely informative. All the years of flooding at Tam and I never heard that good of an explanation as to the free water we get to use throughout the year. What a savings this is for NPD!
