@psychotherapy a pediatric ER doc warned me against this.

@wende6471 why is that? It has always worked like a dream in our household and our pediatricians have always been supportive of it.

I'm curious too. I've always used that for every remedy

My daughter had a clogged tear duct at about 10 days old. Severe enough that we landed up at CDH for the pediatric ER. When I asked about it, he just shook his head and asked if I had read it on a Mom’s page. I think it’s just really hard to ensure that it’s sterile and you could be introducing more bacteria or germs into the eye. (I know pink eye is different than a clogged duct, but just wanted to make sure that the OP talks with their doc before trying an at home remedy. )

Do you use essential oils? Tee tree and lavender oils mixed with a little coconut oil (or the like), around the eye socket every two hours.

If conjunctivitis/pink eye is caused by a virus, the infection simply must run its course. Though there is no treatment for viral pink eye, you can relieve symptoms with lubricating eye drops to soothe irritation. Or warm compresses can be soothing. I’m not sure about the breast milk. I’ve heard good things though. If it’s bacterial then an antibiotic would help. But even bacterial can usually still go away on its own in like 10 days.

Pink eye is no fun though. Sorry your dealing with it. Defiantly call an ophthalmologist if you need more help

If there was a recent cold / viral illness that’s more reason to believe it’s viral.

Conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral and allergies. If they’re allergies, over the counter antihistamine drops!

Same symptoms whether bacterial/ virus— anything calming/soothing. Lavender /Chamomile tea bags w/ tea tree

Chamomile tea, rinse your eye with it. Or use it like eye drops!

@panchito interesting suggestion. But sadly this isn’t available for many moms: not everyone has this on hand. for me, I dried up about 10. 5 years ago.

My pediatrician said if it's getting crusty goopy needing to be wiped every 2 hours usually bacterial, if more of a wake up w it crusty, wipe here and there throughout the day then usually viral. So far we've only needed meds once w 3 littles. Other times breastmilk and just riding it out worked fine.
