Nope. I'm a reading interventionist in an elementary school and while it is certainly less than ideal, I'm able to meet with all of my students via video conferencing. I'm very lucky to have a job that can be done this way when needed and that I can continue to be paid.

@neutretto my husband works at Costco. I hear the stories. People are losing their minds there. I hope you get well soon.

@burschenschaft in the early days of the Great Toilet Paper Panic I had a grown man yell at me “I sure hope I don’t have to poop tomorrow! ”. and he said it with an indignant tone  I’m like sir, I can’t help you with that ‍♀️
by (1.7k points)
@neutretto I think the word “entitled” can be used to describe most everything I hear from there lol. some days it sounds like the goddamn hunger games with the upper echelon and the elderly.

City Letter Carrier
by (1.7k points)
@conduction I feel for you. I just quit the post office after almost a decade. I was sooo reluctant to leave but looking back, the money wasn’t good enough for the mandatory overtime and all of the abuse. And that’s coming from the ex union vp who management wouldn’t dare fuck with.
by (7.5k points)
@burschenschaft Thanks and wow. What do you do now?
by (7.5k points)
@burschenschaft if you read about the letter carrier that was shot and killed on her route. I'm at that station.
by (1.7k points)
I got hired on *right* as all of this was happening handling property claims for an insurance company. No experience and no degree. I make two dollars an hour less but. 8 hour days and with covid I work from home. I am now officially the poster child for there is happiness outside of the postal service lol.
by (7.5k points)
@burschenschaft work from home. nice. I have a masters in sports management but frankly got tired of salary jobs which were 40+ hours a week, but I only got paid for the 40. Plus I really like being outside. I've had a side gig selling on Amazon for awhile, but it basically crashed and burned when my hours went up to 60 every week. but eventually I'll drop off the OT list and ramp that back up.
by (1.7k points)
@conduction I’m so sorry to hear about your coworker-one of my worst fears. Hope you guys are holding up at least as best you can. My old office is getting mandated 5 hours on top of their routes. Daily. OT list or not there was no escaping it. I do miss being outside so you got me there. But I moved from Colorado, which is beautiful 80% of the time to Florida where, if it’s not hot as hell and buggy, it’s pouring down rain so, I’m calling it a wash.
by (7.5k points)
@burschenschaft Thanks. We are a small station and I am the newest one, but a pretty close group. We are down like 3 routes automatically every day. We are mandated about 1-3 times a week. But 5 hours? Didn't that put you over 12? I moved to Indiana from Denver and have really wanted to go back because friends/family/it's beautiful & I hate Indiana. but hear how short they are in Colorado and am afraid of jumping out of frying pan into the fire. plus housing shortage.
by (1.7k points)
It only puts you over 12 if you don’t have the huevos to drive your mail back to the office and let them figure it out. If I were you I would wait it out on the transfer to Denver. they can’t hire to save their lives. I hear applicants are up with the pandemic but once they get their actual jobs back who knows what will happen. Let me know if you do decide to try to go back. I still know quite a bit of people back there and can throw in the good word. I worked in Arvada.
by (7.5k points)
@burschenschaft Yeah, I don't have a year yet. just converted after almost 4 years. this past January. My theory is places like Denver and San Francisco can't keep CCAs because other easier jobs pay roughly the same and it's so expensive to live those places that CCA doesn't pay enough unless you are a kid living at home or married to a. spouse with a really good job.
