My brother works out everyday and his midsection is always bloated . He also eats super healthy. He has gained muscle all over his body but we think maybe he has some kind of issues with his digestion which would make him so bloated in midsection . We can literally feel his muscle underneath his belly and he doesn’t really have flab there. Not to be gross but he also has uncontrollable gas lol Does anyone know what kind of dr you would need to see for that ? His regular dr wasn’t much help !

It may be gluten or dairy If that is still In his diet. He may have an intolerance and the only noticeable thing could be the bloating vs pain etc.

@carotid yep. This would be my first two guesses.
by (2.8k points)
@carotid this is my first guess too. My daughter is a gymnast and runner. She trains for gymnastics for over 12 hours a week and runs every day. She is very cut and muscular everywhere but her belly. I’d remind her to stand up taller and engage her core but she was. Last summer she decided to change her diet and take out grains. The bloating of her belly went away.

Use a good probiotic

Has he been to a dr? I’d start with that just to rule out anything serious.

If he does protein drinks it could be from that. I’ve read lots of people have bad gas when upping their protein. Just a thought.

Have him check Ayurvedic diet. That helped me a lot I don’t follow it 100% but my breakfast is always Ayurvedic and I continue to use Ghee daily

Gastro doctor. Hopefully they can help him. I went to see one and had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and they found nothing which I am happy about. But I have really bad bloating too that is unexplained.

Maybe have him try a probiotic and fiber! Also have him watch the gasy greens he could also try eliminating foods he may think contributes to it but i would also ask his doctor
by (1.1k points)
@haircut3 he takes probiotics . he also takes a bunch of vitamins and drinks protein shakes . I was suspecting IBS. I feel bad for him ! He works so hard
by (370 points)
@subtitle that could be very well too! Also what about a gluten or dairy free protein? I would def have him call the doctor! I hope you guys get answers. I swear i feel like we can all tolerate not feeling good but when it’s your stomach it’s horrible i know when i’m bloated or my stomach hurts i’m down for the count! I hope he gets some relief soon

Lactaid with all dairy, see if that alleviates some symptoms.

Gastro for sure. Lots of people are intolerant to dairy and gluten but some people react badly to certain veggies! You can eat healthy but happen to eat the wrong things for your system. He could maybe try an at hole food sensitivities test

Everlywell food sensitivity test? Also as someone else said, most protein drinks cause these issues in many people due to certain common ingredients that no one tells you will do this. Most "prebiotics" inulin fiber, chicory root, oligosaccharides.

Functional medicine dr!

I have a great one too if he’s interested. It’s not cheap but it’s the best medicine I’ve ever experienced.

The easiest thing may be to start from zero , and move forward. I was having digestive issues, no matter what I ate. I did a detox for 21 days. ( green juices, raw food/ salad- veggies only, no dairy dressing, and fruit. ) Also 1 cup of detox tea at night. Clearing what may be in the system , then slowly introduce foods and you will be able to tell what does digest well or feel good.

Also, have him check out this protein

Could be the protein shakes he is drinking. Also I would have him cut out gluten and dairy and see if that helps . A lot of protein shakes contain dairy so he would have to switch .
by (1.1k points)
@pons7 I was wondering if it was the protein shakes he’s drinking too
by (3.3k points)
@subtitle my husband had similar issues while drinking his whey protein shakes so he switched to the vegan ones and that solved the issue ‍♀️ maybe have him stop the shakes and see if that helps

Does he drink beer? Also certain types of protein drinks can cause bloat. Lactose is the main carbohydrate in whey protein. Is he lactose intolerant or developed an intolerance? Whey protein can also cause protein bloat if too much is ingested. I would cut down on those for a little bit and see if he feels better.

He can try a hemp or plant based protein if he doesn’t want to completely eliminate.

He can see a GI or an internist. Best of luck.

Liver problems can cause what you are describing

Could be celiac disease (my daughter has this) gas and bloating are definitely symptoms. I would say to start with a gastroenterologist that is the specialist that would deal with that.

I found that eating nuts caused a lot of bloating. I guess it must be a good sensitivity. I cut out nutlike a month ago and no problems.

Liver detox!, a lot of gastric issues is because of sluggish liver. & dairy  cut it out completely and see if he sees a difference

It is likely diet. Even if healthy, he could have food sensitivities that he is not aware of. Ask the doctor if they can do a food sensitivities test. If not, I think 23&me has one.

My husband's been a bodybuilder for 30 years or more he said cut down on the amount of protein shakes too many calories and they are not good for the kidney. He may have to add more cardio

I would take him to the doctor and see about an elimination diet. I feel that way when I eat anything with gluten or dairy.

The first thing I thought of was liver issues. Is he a drinker? If the liver is failing, fluid will build up around it and cause abdomen swelling. Simple blood test would show that as well. Did his regular doctor do bloodwork?
