I have never used essential oils before but my husband has been having extreme pain/inflammation in his shoulder and I am running out of ideas for him. Is there an oil out there that can help him? We have done muscle relaxers, steroids, ice, heat, etc. He can't take NSAIDs because he is allergic. As a nurse, I am running out of ideas for him to be comfortable. Any oil advice/help would be appreciated!

There’s a Arnica ointment very good for things like that!

Do you mean CBD oil?
by (6.8k points)
@adrieneadrienne no essential oils
by (3.3k points)
@meekins — I’m a massage therapist and use peppermint oil on some clients. I also use Biofreeze a lot, it’s not an essential oil but does help a lot in easing pain. We also use ReLeaf, a CBD infused lotion. Has he had an MRI to be sure there’s no tear? Extreme pain is nothing to play around with, if he’s got a tear, no oil will help, he’ll need PT/chiro/massage to help it heal.

Yes no tear. Like I said, I'm a nurse so I already had him do all the clinical things. Now I am trying to think outside of the box.

I’d suggest he speaks with a PT I refer a lot of people to . Dr. Damon Bescia in Naperville. He’s brilliant and has helped so many of my clients.

@adrieneadrienne thank you!

@meekins The chiropractor I work for also has a really great staff member who has done some excellent shoulder work with a lot of our patients, I work at Buchar Family Chiropractic in South Naperville at 95th and book. If he’s interested in seeing a chiropractor I can get him a reduced rate for an initial visit. We do massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. 630-857-3542

I had the same symptoms as he ever had a CT scan done I end up having a small tear in my shoulder same symptoms. He would not have to have surgery there is other ways to handle it. Go on Amazon there's peppermint oil it's pretty cheap like $10 and it does a world of Good
by (6.8k points)
@pigling yes we have done all the imaging and thankfully everything is ok!
by (7.3k points)
@meekins well that is good on your part. It sounds like there's inflammation in there. Have you tried peppermint oil by itself?

Has he tried massage?
by (6.8k points)
@tamboura10 not yet. That's next on my list but he is so busy with work he hasn't had time yet.
by (3.4k points)
I hope he finds some relief. It's awful to be in constant pain with no relief.
by (3.4k points)
You can also try purchasing a tens unit on Amazon. They are often used in PT and they have various functions for massage and muscle stimulation. They are fairly reasonable, like $30. I bought one per recommendation from my orthopedic Dr.

I am currently dealing with shoulder pain from an injury. MRI showed a labrum tear. I have done it all to this point too along with PT for the past 7 weeks (injured beginning of Nov though). The steroid injection helped for a couple of weeks. For some it lasts longer. Has he been to the orthopedic doc? PT may help depending on what is going on. I feel his pain. This is no fun
by (6.8k points)
@astaire I am so sorry you are dealing with this too. He is miserable. And it gets worth with stress. He's a partner in his law firm so stress is an every day thing. He is definitely going to see an ortho doc, but I need something to get him some relief in the meantime.

You could also try the CBD lotion. My gram uses it for her back and it helps. Have to go to a dispensary to get it though I believe.

Frankincense, Expensive but it works. Also deep relief from young living, or wintergreen (this can have a numbing effect that is helpful), Pam away is also good.

I bought some samples of doterra deep blue lotion to try on my husbands back. Well. he’s allergic to peppermint so he can’t use it. If you pm me your address, I’ll throw a couple in the mail to you. They are just little sample packets you can try out, and if it works, they sell bottles.

We have a TENS unit from a back injury that we all use for every other injury now. Insurance paid for it- maybe ask doctor for script? I know they sell battery operated ones at Walgreens and CVS. Not sure how strong they are.

There are definitely several oils that can help, but it sounds like you need the big guns. For that I would recommend Nature’s ultra CBD muscle rub with the cool Azul pain cream. Let me know if you need help getting the best price

Has he done physical therapy? My husband is doing it now for a shoulder injury — slow process, but it IS working.

If hes in that much pain, he needs to see an ortho shoulder specialist, most likely start PT before it turns to a frozen shoulder and takes months of PT to get his range and strength back. They can do the ultrasound and e-stim for the inflammation and pain!
by (2.8k points)
Also, just an FYI, Athletico now has open access where you do not need a physician script to start PT.

Shoulder pain is the worst! For me, sleeping made it worse. I’d move in my sleep and wake up in pain. For me, massages helped. Deep tissue. I’d also roll it out with a softball three times a day at home. I’ve used essential oils for over 20 years, make sure you dilute. The brand I trust the most is Plant Therapy, they’re extremely helpful both my email and phone.

Have you tried Tumeric? I had plantar fasciatis in my feet, and inflammation in my joints. I cut out most sugar, and started taking a tumeric supplement once a day, and my pain was greatly reduced (if I completely go off sugar, it's 100% gone). Definitely not saying that would work for everyone, but maybe it might help? I just reread and realized it might be muscle related, which I don't know that any of this would help, sorry!
