Anyone ever had Ring NOT catch motion that happened directly in front of their door? I had a bunch of stuff stolen off my porch directly in front of my Ring & it caught NOTHING. I am absolutely livid.

If something triggered it just beforehand, it'll take a while to trigger again.
by (470 points)
@escapade everything was there at 7:14pm and gone by 8:14pm. No video in between.
by (1.6k points)
@hifi6 so it might have happened at 7:15.
by (3.2k points)
@escapade Right, there’s a five minute reset after the first motion detection. It increase to 10 after the first resting period and 15 after that. That’s what I was told by Ring
by (270 points)
@hifi6 that’s happened to me before
by (13.8k points)
@escapade that’s why wired is better, no delay between recordings
by (470 points)
@daryldaryle I will most definitely be looking into other options. We have a Ring Pro, but this is absolutely ridiculous.
by (13.8k points)
@hifi6 In addition to the Ring Doorbell we have 4 PoE Elite camera, Wired Spotlight Cam, InDoor Cam (the new small one) and a battery operated stickup cam. They work well except for the Stickup Cam Battery

@aurum69 seriously? So all a thief has to do is trigger the doorbell without showing themselves then they have a 5 min window to do what they want with no recording of it at all? Seems like a huge loophole. I know on wyze you can pay to eliminate the 10min “cool down” period, does ring offer that option?
by (310 points)
I have cameras in different locations for the same areas to avoid this. But you're right something needs to change with their product!

@escapade somewhere there’s a thief reading this who gives this info a “like”

Yup I've had this happen. Had packages delivered and it didnt catch anyone pulling up to the house or walking it to our door or leaving. Doesnt happen all the time just randomly

Use them for years. I have found. Ring works perfectly. Until you really need it. Same with wyze cameras. Always some glitch when I’m not home.

It’s extremely stupid. I have a camera because I want everything to be ON CAMERA AND VIEWABLE. Yet I always find massive gaps of time where nothing was recorded even though activity happened in front of the camera. It drives me insane.

Yup. So now it’s just a video doorbell and I’ve added in better cameras. As much as I enjoy seeing the person who was heres ass as they walk away - having their face is more important

Well we also have a CCTV as well as Ring.

This is the reason I purchased a couple of nest cams. I’ve had instances where motion notifications weren’t sent by nest but because it records 24/7 I had the footage and viewed it after a quick scroll.

Depends on what version/generation you have. I have one of the first ones and you have to be right in front of it. I get better luck if it picks up the delivery truck lol

I had two men in a stolen car drive into my drive, collect their things, get out of their car and run off before my Ring Floodlight leapt into action. My doorbell got the car coming into the driveway but it was a v1, so the footage was all blocky until the car had passed pretty much out of shot. Literally the only time I’ve needed it to work flawlessly.

I have a wired Ring Pro and all OK. Share your concerns on their Facebook page

@illiberal Hone I was told that the only way a system won't get hacked is to hard wire the cameras. Both my Ring and my other 2 Cameras are not hard wired. I wish I had known that before I had them installed. It turns out they are a total waste of money for me. Anyone know how to hard wire a system?
by (140 points)
@eunuchoidism1165 I don't think that's accurate. You just need to enable 2-Steps Verification on your Ring account.

Nope. My ring caught 3 little thugs trying to break in my backdoor with a loaded 45cal. 3 different videos. And thanks to Ring. Those idiots are now all in custody!

My doorbell is hardwired and caught car arriving at the front but never recorded it going away. I have been with a support on the chat for about an hour and device was slow and unresponsive. They have downgraded the firmware on my device and it is better now.

Yup, frequently. Or, just records them walking away. No facial. I've been many times, it's a doorbell, not a security device. Yet the neighborhood app they own along with it is for security purposes.

Happens to me quite alot. Had a package delivered and not recorded and there was no pre or post movement within 10-15 either side. Good wifi etc. Oh btw my cheapo £25 outdoor wifi camera DID catch the delivery guy which is up high and uses motion/sound sensing to record. not happy with ring.

Your ring can be hacked from a cell phone or set of keys. Someone entered my house numerous times. Finally I was clued in by a locksmith. My ring alarm code was changed at least twice while I was out of town.
by (800 points)
@eunuchoidism1165 this is why i have 3 different systems. Unlikely anyone would realize to disable the two cloud based and then i have a hardwired HD system they’d have to really look hard to find the recording

I took pictures of the inside of my house when I would leave and when I would return and cops said they couldn't do anything since I no witness or inside photos. Hard to get an inside photo when you are away from home.

I have a couple of fixed for the problems but I will not put it on here. I even know who the people are including a picture of a neighbor exiting my door with a key. Cops took a copy of picture and finger prints but they never did anything about it.
by (350 points)
@eunuchoidism1165 if you have proof you can file a report and/or take them to small claims court.
by (1k points)
@deuteranopia I hadn't thought about Small Claims Court. Thank you

@eunuchoidism1165 how/why do they have a key
by (1k points)
@escapade A Roebuck That is a very good question. I have a very large box of locks that I have replaced the locks with new knobs and keys and they still got in. Police would not print any of the knobs. I was told years ago that anybody who has spent any time in jail can pick locks.

@eunuchoidism1165 you are welcome!

We have hard wired cameras also. The ring is great but it takes the backup systems sometimes

Yes - i had a random crazy (addict) person on my front porch - my husband sent her away and told her no for her money requests- i tried to show the police officers the video and oddly enough the video processor failed the very day i needed it to work - thankfully my nest and amazon cloud cam caught enough video and audio to piece together enough proof that she and another male was casing my home. Ring doorbell was replaced by ring via warranty

Check your settings. It took me a while to get the perfect setup for all the cameras. Now it ignores everything in the street, but as soon as they step on my property, Alexa makes an announcement and I check my phone.

That’s terrible. We pay a small fortune and we shouldn’t be left out in the cold.

Have never had any issue with ours. they never miss a thing almost to the point its annoying. But to be fair, I have the motion and alert setting very relaxed. If you drive or walk in front of my house, you will be recorded, which is exactly what I want. Living on a cul de sac we do have significantly less traffic which helps limit the alerts but because of the ring, I know which cars are supposed to be driving down the street late at night. I can always tell which cars are lost or not from our neighborhood.

Marketing these as "security devices" is a flat out joke. They are novelties at best. Chinese crap made as cheaply as possible for maximum profit without regard to the consequences of their products failure.

I suppose, since it is WiFi, a criminal only needs a RF noise box to disable it.

@spray41775 not all know that info but you just gave it to them. ‍♀️

This my ring pro yesterday recorded every minute that there was motion

There's a way to slow down the number of responses, via the app. Go to settings/Motion settings

Hello @hifi6, this is not the experience we want you having with your device. I would appreciate the chance to connect with you and take a further look into your settings to optimize them with you. Please send me a direct message any time to connect. Thank you!

Yes, I was waiting for a delivery from Keurig. I looked on porch and was surprised to find box. I never received alert.

My Ring quite often doesn't notify me of anything via the App, it just crashes and forgets who either I am or my wife

My husband smokes on the front porch. It only records him going out and coming back in, nothing in between.
by (550 points)
Sounds like the sensitivity is too low.
by (370 points)
@spray41775 I actually have it set rather high. I may do some adjusting to see if it helps. Thanks for mentioning.
