Question

So, my Doorbell Pro just died, and it’s long since out of warranty. I had headaches with it the whole time I had it because I have a steel door and cement board siding so even a WiFi access point right on the other side of the wall from the doorbell couldn’t get me a reliable connection, so I’m not interested in getting a new one that still depends on the WiFi signal outside the house. That leaves the Doorbell Elite (Ethernet) or the Door View camera (WiFi antenna is in the part that is on the inside of the door). Before I shell out big bucks and cut a hole in my wall for the Elite, does anyone have any thoughts on the Door View cam? Having to keep recharging the battery doesn’t thrill me, but it might be worth it for a simpler installation at less than half the cost of the Elite.

Did you upgrade your transformer to 16v 30va

@chretien I’m aware of the transformer issue with the Ring Pro, and that might be why the doorbell died (although it was also 3+ years old), but I’m not sure how that’s germane to my question? Are you suggesting that the 30va transformer makes the WiFi signal on my front porch stronger somehow?

@grader9 I will say that a dying ring pro can represent symptoms of poor Wifi connection so that’s possible as well. Varies by case.

If you have the protect plus plan then it would still be under warranty

@goalkeeper I bought the doorbell well before the Protect Plus plan even existed, so unfortunately the extended warranty doesn’t apply in this case.

Might be worth contacting them if you have signed up for that plan and explained it wasn’t an option then

@exercitation2948 I already have a UniFi access point right on the inside of the front door. Short of putting an access point outside on the front porch, a WiFi-only unit isn’t going to work in that location.

If you have a glass storm door, do not get the door view cam.

Why reinvest in a ring product if the last one didn't work well for you

@fairtrade because my other three Ring cameras work great, especially after I invested in a quality WiFi setup. This one was an aberration.
