Looking at buying a new garage door opener from Chamberlain or Genie. Which system is better, MyQ or Aladdin?

Super happy with MyQ at two residents. I suggest using their internet gateway as your hub and connect it wired to your network vs using an opener itself connnected with WiFi.

For me personally I like the way that I've made my old dumb opener smart. when this one dies, I think Im going to want another non-smart opener.

Its part of a broader control and automation scheme that involves raspberry pi and node-red. I tap a http widget on my android phone and open the door. No opening a dashboard ui or starting some other program. its right there on the home screen. the pi running node red automates all kinds of other things it has graduated from opening a garage door to automating most things in the house. it began as a simple webserver that put the doors on the network (github andrewshilliday garage door project) but I would still have to open the webpage to get to the door controls (lame). separately, I wanted to automate some outdoor lighting to turn on at sunset and researching that I discovered the shelly1 and it was ON. I learned about mqtt and node red soon after then realized I already had a pi with node red already installed on it and it had relays wired to it already for opening the door so I quit using shilliday's door opener and began using node red to do it. it's been a labor of love ever since.

Now I have the dashboard up and running too. it now controls the heater as well. ive learned how to prevent the heat from turning on while a door is open. the garage lights have been taught to turn on when the garage door opens and turn off a few minutes after the door closes. if my sump pump fails and water trips a float switch in the sump, node red will send me a text message on my phone letting me know. You know those motion security floodlights? I have shellys in mine to let me know when a motion sensor trips out in the yard. everything all ties back to node red and mqtt running on a pi thats mounted inside the garage door opener mechanism.
