Im new here. Just starting to get into home automation a few weeks ago so please excuse my ignorance.Im new here. Just starting to get into home automation a few weeks ago so please excuse my ignorance. I bought some wink smart home control panels for my father in law, several years ago. He just got around to installling them this week and is getting the whole subscription issues. My question is, are these completely useless now without the subscription? Can he use his alexa devices to control it? Thanks for the help guys.

It is useless without the subscription. He cannot use Alexa to control it. Buy a SmartThings hub instead. Compatible with zigbee/zwave devices (and lutron but only if you also buy a lutron hub)

If you are talking about Wink Hub, currently useless. If you are talking about Wink Relay, there are fairly simple hacks to allow them to run locally, without the wink cloud connection. Google 'wink relay hack' before trashing them.
