For the people that use actiontiles do you have your tablets screen go black after a specific period of time or do you just leave the screen on actiontiles 24/7?

Yes DAKboard as screen saver with changing family photos - also issue http command to screen (using Full browser) to shut down completely overnight etc - unless movement in front of camara

How do you get family photos to show?
by (1.8k points)
@cheke1 just use fully browser then add DAKboard in freebie mode for screensaver, you can add loads of info, calendar etc but i like plain photos. Then it reverts to ActionTiles if I walk in front of the screen or wave my hand in front.

@gio941 Thanks for the info. I have Fully browser and DAKboard but was never able to get my photos to work on it.

@cheke1 does dakboard work on its own? Ie if you just put the url for your dakboard in a browser do you get the screen show?

I leave it on, on mid-low brightness.

I connected Dakboard and just use it as a screensaver.

I’ve had mine on 24x7 for 3 years now with a Fire tablet, no issues.

Using fully kiosk, we programmed it to go off automatically during the night and on again in the morning. We turned off the screen saver. Tablet 10HD.

I have the screen go black once I’ve locked the screen. I do that when no one is here but me. I live alone. My actiontiles are for when friends and family turn up as I know what the names of things are but they don’t. Once I unlock the screen it stays active until I lock it again.

I've had a kindle 8" for two years and it's been on (but in dim mode) for two years now with no issues. No burn in at all. I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for fully kiosk software on each tablet. If fully kiosk fee was like other android apps where you pay once and then can use it on any device with that account then I'd think about using it. I use "Screen On" which is a free app. It's dim when not in use. When I touch the screen it goes to full brightness on a set timer then goes back to dim. Screen On also gets around those kindle ads because it never goes to lock mode so I didn't have to pay extra for the tablet.

After moving from a house where I lived for a long time to an apartment in 2018, and after getting going with Alexa, and a LOT more sophisticated automatons with webCoRE, I haven't really even been using ActionTiles much for the past year and a half. However, when I was, I had many cheap (RCA) tablets wall-mounted in rooms all over the house, running ActionTiles. Since I'm not rich and also care about preserving natural resources wherever possible and practical (which meant leaving the screens on 24/7 was not acceptable for me), I used a combination of SmartThings, motion sensors, Sharp Tools, Tasker, Secure Settings, Screen On, Gravity Screen, and Fully Kiosk Browser to manage turning the screens on and off (both automatically and manually), based on home presence, room occupancy, time of day, activity state (another subsystem I built into my SmartThings that is sort of like 'Mode', but serves a slightly different purpose), and movement. I also used a smart plug-in power outlet to manage periodic charging for the tablets, so they were on battery power, and not even connected to AC power at all for long periods.

Depends on the situation. In high traffic areas like the kitchen I dim to Dakboard. In bedrooms I just have the screen turn off- Requiring swipe to unlock. In guest bedroom and I use a custom Screensaver background with the words "Home Controller. Touch to activate. in red text.

Blank when the room is dark. Burn in does happen after a year or two on these tablets if you dont give the screen a break.

Dakboard on Windows tablet. Wakes screen up when motion sensor in ST sees motion. When no motion tablet shows black fullscreen wallpaper (because win tablet can't wake screen without physical button press) :(

Time out to DakBoard, then to black. Use fully motion detect to bring AT back to the top when someone walks up to the screen.
