Thought I would share since I am so impressed. Awhile back I was searching for a monitoring solution for Smartthings. Scout Alarm didn't seem to work anymore. I found a company called Noonlight. $10 a month and they monitor your hub for intrusion and fire. A couple examples, I was out of town one night and the wife was home. Somehow the alarm got triggered at night and we didn't answer the phone and the cops showed up at our house within minutes! Wife was very impressed. Tonight, the oven let off a little extra smoke while we were cooking. Fire alarms go off, triggers Smartthings. instant call. Noonlight is very responsive and never gets upset about false alerts. If anyone is looking for a monitoring solution for their current hub, I would recommend Noonlight. Well worth the $10 a month in my opinion. Be careful though. Our Smartthings is connected to Google home. If you says turn on lights, it activates Noonlight. Lol. Not really a bad thing feature to have though.

@footfall Go into the ST settings for Google Home integration and exclude Noonlight from the list of devices to expose in GH.

Cops show up & then you get a fat false alarm bill a few weeks later from the city! I’m about to cancel my alarm service due to False alarm bills.

@exerciser you have Noonlight?
by (1.7k points)
@footfall it depends on your city, regardless of which alarm monitor company you use. Hopefully your city allows first false alarm call to your residence free, but after that get ready for a $100-300 bill. Noonlight, or ADT, Gardian, etc will not bill you. the city will.

@exerciser yep. We get one freebie, then 50/100/200/300/etc. We found out about this during our xfinity install but it applies to any alarm monitoring service. We never arm the xfinity because we have teenagers that would never remember to disable the alarm lol

Maybe the difference with Noonlight is they call you. If you don't answer to give your code, then they dispatch. I guess just answer the phone or respond immediately if possible. Obviously not the case for everyone to be tied to their phone at all times. Works for us though.

@footfall no, it’s same. they call you first, but we are usually at work when the dog triggers a motion lol

+1 for Noonlight Specific to motion sensors I have found them to be too sensitive to light changes as the sun moves. If you are using SHM and Noonlight I would recommend removing them from SHM monitoring and instead have the motion sensors push a notification to your phone anytime motion is detected but not trigger an SHM alarm.

@exerciser - I wouldn’t use motion with pets in the home. I stopped pretty immediately (10 years ago) when my cats triggered the sensor even though they told me it wouldn’t. I just arm it in stay mode to eliminate motion. I figure you have to get through a door/window to activate motion.

@exerciser - that ain’t my hair anymore. Chopped off 12” a month ago. #freeeeeedom

No doubt. Not sure if it helps we live in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure if they got called out too much, they would send a bill.

What happens when ST is offline? Any cell or batt backup?
by (300 points)
@lemur Then the monitoring is offline as well. Smartthings does have solutions for both failover to Battery and 4g but we don't have it.
by (300 points)
I have wanted to get a 4g failover setup, but just haven't yet.

@footfall, what about when ST is going through a maintenance? Is it offline too even if armed?
by (300 points)
@lemur I believe so yes. It's still just as good as the hub so if the hub is down, it's all down

Most monitoring stations that alarm companies use have the ability to monitor most anything that can send a text or email. They simply turn this non alarm system format into a signal that drops to the operator.

I wish these guys worked in Canada. With Scoutt stopping monitoring there are no options in Canada :(
