Just moved into a new house and looking to replace the old thermostats. Just wondering what everyones favorite one is and why? I'd like one that has a screen/touch screen. Also is it possible to get one with a humidity controller? Thanks!

I went with nest because we already had nest cameras. We now have nest smoke detectors too and I love how everything is on the same app

Does nest work with smartthings?

@enzymolysis Not out of the box.

@peg47 not at all anymore without serious unsupported workarounds sibce Google killed Works With Nest.

Ecobee is my preference (5 of them due to zoning)
by (360 points)
So you can link 2 together? I have two furnaces on two different levels.
by (940 points)
Not sure what you mean by link, but they are visible on the same acct . if you want it to average temp, you need the remote sensors that will pair to a particular thermostat. I have 2 units each with 2 zones on my main floor. Each zone has a thermo and a couple remote sensors for each. Each thermostat does it's own thing/is programmed differently. I'm sure with ST or IFTTT I could set up some fancy configs between them all but I really dont need it. I'm more a set it and forget guy.

Any z wave thermostat (I have 8 of the ct101) will have pretty much the same functionality. I'd strongly recommend getting Rboy apps to give you better control too (this will make the previous statement more true)

I'd go with Ecobee if you want integration with anything else. Google broke integration - killing the Works With Nest API when they bought Nest. (For Nest if you already had it Works With nest setup it will continue to work - but it's a nonstarter for new users. There's a VERY unsupported hacky workaround I don't trust so I don't consider it an integration. ) Honeywell also makes some good Zwave Thermostats

Honeywell works well also . 4 years no issues with ST or Alexa integration

@guff15 what model do you recommend?
by (700 points)
@guff15 same. It's not as pretty as a echobee but at least it's a compatible with an open standard.

I have four ecobees. ST integration works well. Energy management stuff is simple.

I have Ecobee and have been very happy with it. 1. Touchscreen interface and senses motion. 2. Displays current weather on screen. 3. Integrates with Alexa, obviously, and Smart Things.

Ecobee is the best. Ecobee 3 lite if you want to save some money, but still get almost all of the features (minus on-thermostat voice control).

I got this gocontrol thermostat. It’s zwave. $85. It can’t do any fancy stuff by itself but using smartthings you can control it with Alexa, have the temp change by time and presence. So I didn’t have to pay a lot since I was controlling it all remotely.

Why would someone put old thermostats in a new house?
by (680 points)
@amytal823 I always out in the cheapes, used smart thermostat 8 can buy on eBay. I let my hub control them and manually change them via Alexa. I never touch them directly. $25 usually

I’m very fond of my Ecobee. I like that you can buy additional temp/ room occupied sensors for other parts of the house.
