Hi guys, just received an email from Ryanair advising that I can get a voucher for the value of my ticket and that if I don’t accept the voucher then I can click on a link to contact them for a cash refund. I have followed the link but can’t see any option to request a cash refund. Has anyone else had a similar issue? If so, what is the solution? Thanks

Cash refund? shouldn, t they refund you with the payment type as you paid
by (1.2k points)
@haydon yes, that’s what the mean by cash = refund to your bank account/credit card etc versus a voucher that can only be spent on Ryanair flights. A bit confusing i know

Yes I had exactly the same and the link just takes you to a page where they tell you why you should really get a voucher! It's a joke. I found one of my previous emails to their customer services and wrote again asking for the refund I had previously been promised. As yet, I have nothing more
by (1.2k points)
@biff thanks, that’s exactly the same scenario! Will contact them again then. Thank you x
by (590 points)
Same happened to me so I emailed them too and since heard nothing!
by (2.7k points)
@biff after trying every way possible I managed to get on a page that told me Ryanair are paying out on a month by month rota. Expect payment in 3/6 months.

@transistor10 thank you for the info. That's good to hear xxx
by (1.2k points)
@transistor10 yeah might be a while before we get our money back! X

Jet2 have emailed me & said i should wait for them to contact me for a refund, they are going in date order, we were due to fly on the 3rd of June. I have heard jet2 are good in contacting u but not so good for Ryanair, they have to refund you. I would check Martin Lewis webpage, he has loads of info on this.
by (1.2k points)
@canner2 good idea! I will check that. Thank you

Jet2 are very good I have my money back very quick after my holiday was cancelled on 14th march i have booked another holiday with them for 2021 and have another one booked for this october (cant see that happening either) jet2 the best
by (2.5k points)
@chug8 have you heard anything about your October holiday? Have one booked for October through jet 2.
by (170 points)
Off to menorca 2nd October not heard anything I woukdnt go unless it is going to safe and I am not sure it is going to be

Yep I had exactly the same - it kind of implies that if you do nothing you will get a refund. I had already applied for a cancellation refund
by (1.2k points)
@collier exactly! So I’m confused; do I have to do anything or shall I just wait? I had previously applied for the refund too and believe this email was their response to my refund request but it’s hard to say as it had no subject!
by (1.2k points)
@prisage0 I’m just waiting tbh - I think it was just a lure to get you to book again or ask for a voucher - did see on tv that it could take 6 months for a refund. Mine is only £280 (3 flights to Valencia tomorrow). I’ve pretty much ignored everything else they have sent that mentioned vouchers and rebooking
by (1.2k points)
@collier mine was to Billund (Legoland in Denmark) last BH Friday, only £140 too, so no rush for the refund especially now when you can’t rebook anyway! I’ll wait too
by (2.7k points)
@prisage0 we were told 3/6 months

Me too. Seems they just want to keep stalling!
by (230 points)
@crawler997 they want to keep stalling because if they give every person a cash refund straight away they will go bust. same for many airlines a lot of the money they make goes straight out on airport fees and other cost . if everyone who is planning on using ryanair in the near future took a voucher it would save air fares going up and potentially save them going bust. Then everyone would be moaning and half the people wouldn’t get anything they are owed no voucher or no cash.
by (610 points)
@halfmast9 I totally understand that, but its a bit of a catch 22 situation. I could request the voucher but then if they go bust it's going to be a hell of a job to get my money back. We have no idea when we are going to be able to travel again either and for a lot of people that refund may be very much needed at the present time. I do feel for the travel industry, they have been hit terribly hard, but personal circumstances also come into it. Michael O Leary doesnt give a damn about you when he is squeezing every last penny out of you for going half a kilo over the weight limit. I sincerely hope no airline goes under but I fear there will be lots who go under in the next 12 months unless the government intervene.
by (230 points)
@crawler997 I completely agree with what your saying but people can’t travel at the moment anyway, if people take the voucher they still have the flights they paid for and can use it anytime for 12 month and if the voucher isn’t used tou get a automatic refund my advice would be to take the voucher wait for it to all blow over and then request a refund. If people are desperate for a refund they can use a website called www. resolver. co. uk and it does it all for you pretty much and they respond a lot quicker on there rather then email.

I've had similar email from easyjet yesterday but the flight I want is in June next year and can't book anything as they only go up to May

Check out money saving expert, they have put complaint in for Ryanair as legally they should give cash refund if requested but they're just offering vouchers.
by (1.2k points)
@brasilin thank you! Will do. That’s exactly the issue.
by (1.2k points)
@brasilin I think they have moved on a bit as the email did say that there would be cash refunds but it would take a while
by (740 points)
@collier hope that's the case, it was a couple of days ago, maybe pressure has helped.
by (230 points)
@brasilin they are offering cash refunds . they just take longer to process as they have 75% reduced staffing due to social distancing and every flight is grounded that’s about 10 million refunds they are trying to process . they arnt denying people refunds but they have said it will take time and the government will work in favour of these company’s as they can’t afford to lose the tax of them.
by (1.2k points)
@halfmast9 thanks for clarifying this. It’s just the way they worded the email and the fact that the link to the cash refund takes you nowhere, was a bit confusing! Will wait and see.
by (2.7k points)
@collier we were due to go end of May in half term, been paid hotel and transfer money but Ryanair flights will take 3/6 months . Theyre doing it on a month by month rota.
by (1.2k points)
@transistor10 it seems like will have to be patient and wait then!
by (2.7k points)
@prisage0 we’ve got 4 booked, it seems easier if you’ve booked a package.

Micheal o Leary has just been on BBC 1. He said they have nearly finished refunding people for March.
by (1.2k points)
@crista mine was for May so looks like it might take a few more weeks. No worries and thanks for the note!

@prisage0 no problem x

I had the exact same, I just called my bank and it was refunded within hours! Definitely try that

Yes we had exactly the same, kept taking us to the voucher, clicked on the link for cash and took us to voucher again. We’ve ended up accepting the voucher as we found it said they wouldn’t start processing cash until the corona virus is over, it didn’t give a date so we’ve just gave up, I think that’s what they want us to do. ALSO WORTH NOTING WE GOT £30 LESS THAN WE PAID DUE TO ADMIN FEES!
by (1.6k points)
@enginery are you sure that was an admin charge and not the tax?
by (1.3k points)
@chintz yes it was an admin fee
by (1.6k points)
@enginery that’s so unfair, it’s not your fault flights have been cancelled, could see the point if it was you wanting to change flights or cancel due to unforeseen circumstances , all those £30 charges are giving them a nice tidy profit for nothing
+22 votes
by (1.2k points)
Really? That’s unfair though! On that email it said clearly that with the vouchers you are getting a FULL refund! Unbelievable!
by (1.3k points)
@prisage0 nope ours was £30 less and when we looked it said admin fees  So not only are they trying to avoid cash refunds, they’re taking £30 off us for the pleasure of doing so.
by (1.2k points)
@enginery madness! £30 of each booking makes a lot of money eventually!

I've tweeted them and been put on a list for refunds, even though I'd already done this on the 6th April !

We should have gone away 13th April and are still awaiting the refund. I ended up ringing Ryanair (was on hold for about half an hour) and they have now agreed to a cash refund rather than a voucher. I received an email confirming my request. Waiting patiently now for money to go back into my payment card.
by (1.2k points)
@collier Bellamore great news! So there is some hope!

We was due to go away on March 20th, applied for a refund and I think my partner is still waiting for them to give it to him.

The link is just a loop they are hoping you will get fed up and just accept a voucher. You have to call them email customer service snd demanf full tefund or report them to trading standards
by (1.3k points)
@staffan4161 yes it is you’re right, we kept trying and it kept bringing us back to the voucher.
by (1.2k points)
@staffan4161 thanks for confirming. I thought that too, just didn’t know what to do in order to actually get the refund. Will try to call them this afternoon.
by (400 points)
@prisage0 it will be a fight to get anything from them. best wishes

I kept getting the same issue then eventually they sent another email with a link to accept vouchers or request refund, and it accepted my refund submission. No idea when it will be paid out though! X
by (1.6k points)
Oh thank you for the info, I guess that’s me now sitting with a worthless voucher for £286 now and due another 2 when my June flights get cancelled, here was me thinking I was doing the right thing by booking them on my credit card too. my refund from easyJet has been “ processing “ since March 29th, I’m a bit annoyed as they’ve already released flights for the same time next year and I refuse to fork out any more cash until I get my refund paid back as I’ll probably have my September and October flights cancelled too, by then the flights will no doubt have doubled in price
by (1.2k points)
@chintz don’t accept the vouchers guys! Called Ryanair this morning (on hold half an hour like majority of you! ) and they straight away agreed to the refund. I should receive the confirmation email in 48h and then God knows when the money will be paid back to my card! But I will keep you posted!
by (1.6k points)
@prisage0 ive already accepted one lot of vouchers, they’re no use to me as they’re in my daughters name, I was just gonna let them expire, their T&Cs say I will get a cash refund on them if they’re not used within 12 months, I’m in no hurry for the money , but would like it back eventually, let us know how you get on
by (1.2k points)
@chintz I will sure do! Yep, looks like letting them expire and then taking the refund is the best idea! X
by (1.6k points)
@prisage0 hopefully I’ll get refunded at some point, even if I have to wait the whole 12 months, it’s not so good for others who can’t afford to wait that long or are waiting on big payments being refunded, hopefully everything will come good in the end lol

I’m due to go away on the 16th June with Ryanair , when do you think il hear something I haven’t got a clue what to do x
by (1.2k points)
@parliamentary7864 my flight was scheduled for 8th May and I received the cancellation email on 27th April. So that’s about 11 days before the flight. X
by (370 points)
@prisage0 ahh thankyou, i Booked through on the beach and they’re saying my holiday still hasn’t been cancelled I don’t have a clue why as it’s impossible to go  x
by (1.2k points)
@parliamentary7864 yeah, you may have to wait until first week in June to get some info. They are waiting hoping things will change although we know it’s quite unlikely they will! X

Update lovely people! Called Ryanair again yesterday as I have never received any email confirmation about my cash refund (I was supposed to get one within 48 from my first call which was on 13th May). Yesterday after the second call I got an email confirming that they acknowledged the refusal of the vouchers and that the cash refund will be processed! Happy days

But the trouble is they say it will be processed like us all but the question is how long will it take :(
