My daughter has been offered a credit note for her holiday. These Refund Credit Notes can be exchanged for refunds by 31st January 2021 if a booking is not made by then. They say these credit notes are protected by Abta. Everything I’ve read says ask for refund in first instance. Is a credit note safe under these terms? We don’t know these companies will be trading next year.

A voucher is not protected, if that company goes under in the meantime you’ll be left with nothing. Push for a refund as you have the right to one. They would obviously prefer you to take a voucher rather than give you a refund but you’re entitled to one x

I think it’s a personal choice but you are right, with so many airlines and travel companies making redundancies I personally would ask for a refund. Safest option.

I got offered the same contacted airline and requested cash refund which was accepted but was told it will be paid to me in instalments

Unless your daughter is happy to book for next year now. I would take the refund.

@frediafredie gosh no. We’d like her to see how land lies next year first . They seemed so Adamant that it was a credit note first . I ended up doubting myself

Is this TUI by any chance? Xx

@frediafredie no trek America. I’m guessing this is standard patter then

@frediafredie it’s horrid isn’t it. People work hard all year and I know it was necessary but it doesn’t inspire you to want to rebook when they try to break the law. My only comfort is she’s abta and atol protected. They’ve tried to say these vouchers are atol protected too

@giddens I'm sure I read that they have to be atol protected incase they go bust. Next year we will be keeping it simple caravan along the south coast somewhere. You just have to try and claim refund ASAP otherwise going through ATOL if they go bust is going to be just as bad if not worse - look at last year with Thomas Cook (nearly booked with them for next month, days before ).

@frediafredie oh crikey lucky escape. I know that I Will encourage her to go for refund.

If everyone pushes for a refund we won’t have good deals on holidays for a very long time! Try and support the travel industry and re book

Go for a refund. My friends son works at Manchester airport but has also worked for Monach and Tui in the past and he said he thinks some flight companies will go under.
by (2.1k points)
@cheekbone I don’t doubt it

@giddens he said that Easyjet and i think Tui should be ok

Ask for a refund. If the companies go bust your vouchers arent protected.

Exactly. Sounds like that is on the cards.

Get a refund as even if they are trading holidays are going to be extremely expensive after this

Although you are entitled to a refund don't complain when holidays become more expensive after the pandemic is over.

Vouchers are not protected by Atol. If the company goes under you are out of pocket. I get people are saying if we all insist on a refund, the companies will go bust but can you afford to lose this money. If you want to help the companies then rebook and potentially pay extra for your holiday.

These vouchers are not protected. We not going till October so paid £50 each and choose another holiday next year wasn't waiting around for prices to go sky high
