Cooking on a budget comes very easy for me but unfortunately most of what I know how to make with “cheap” hamburger meat I’m afraid will be high in pts. Does anyone have low point recipes using the higher fat hamburger meat? I’m in Blue

You can use your normal recipes. Just sub ground turkey. My burgers are awesome

@desireedesiri I use a lot of ground turkey. My husband has done the shopping for the past couple weeks and he gets the cheaper hb meat

@schizopod hmmm. Maybe go out and buy extra lean ground pork to add to it. Half and half if you want to use it all up

Best solution would be to buy leaner hamburger. Otherwise, use beans and/or lentils. Check the points. In Blue they are 0sp. Also try riced cauliflower instead of regular rice. You can grate your own cauliflower to save money.

I mixed half mince and half lentils. Turns out great and super cheap.

When using high fat or high point items I just cut the amount in half when possible or use like half ground beef and half Turkey

I buy chuck roast when it’s on sale and grind it myself. I can control the fat

I make a casserole in my crockpot that uses all veggies and you top with ground beef. since the veggies will be zero points, you can use whatever beef you have and count it. The recipe is as follows: Layer the veggies you like in the crockpot. I put fresh carrots on the bottom, 1 bag frozen veg each- corn, peas, green beans and then top with your cooked ground beef. Add one can of tomato soup and one cup of water. DO not stir. Cook 6 hours or so and stir and serve. My family tops it off with ketchup when I serve it. Everyone likes it and we call it WW casserole. Tweak it for what you like and enjoy! Simple and easy. low points

I buy boneless skinless chicken breast and grind it myself. Zero points and much cheaper than hamburger. I hope you are doing Ok with this pandemic going on. Best Wishes

When cooking your meat drain fat off well and then rinse meat off too. Then add to whatever your making

@greenway5 is you drain and rinse does it lower the points?

I do this too. I don't know what it lowers it too but it's a lot better than letting all the fat absorb into whatever you are cooking it with.

@schizopod I’m sure it does but to what extent I couldn’t tell you. It’s better than using as is
