Are you losing or not? There's your answer. Everyone's different.
by (610 points)
@jone90482 Paul I'm not and I cant pin point why. I'm staying within my points and the only zero point foods I could be over eating is my fruit. I'm on blue, but my chicken I only eat 3 oz once a day.
by (2.2k points)
@mouton72063 Swap out the grapes and banana with blueberries. Bananas and grapes are so high in sugar.
by (610 points)
@mascara thank you, I will try that.
by (560 points)
@mouton72063 you aren't eating enough protein
by (10k points)
@mouton72063 Bananas and grapes are the only fruit I eat. But I usually only alternate between each for breakfast and that's it. And I'm losing. I personally think they're fine. But maybe try mixing in the blueberries to replace one of the other each day.

@mouton72063 Do u have a fitbit? I started logging calories too and its helpful so u dont overdo it on zero foods. I keep my calories under 1000

You need more protein. 3 ounces is not enough to burn

@nimrod, didn't you have some experiences with too much fruit?

by (9.4k points)
I stick with the theory that fruit did not make me get fat. I really enjoy eating a variety of fruits. And if I’m going to binge on something (still happens from time to time) it’s going to be grapes, berries or carrots, not potato chips and sweets. Fruits are delicious and give us lots of nutrients, don’t feel guilty about enjoying them. There was a time when I plateaued and I did cut back on fruits and switched to cucumbers, celery, peppers, carrots. but also switched up other things. I pushed past my plateau and I’m back to eating whatever fruits and veggies I want and think it’s perfectly healthy.
by (5.4k points)
@alver did that work when you switched? I’m plateaued at 117 and I’m not sure if it’s the fruit. or if I’m just small enough
by (9.4k points)
And the fact that you count your grapes would lead me to believe you’re doing well on the rest of the plan. If fruits fill you up and give you the energy you need, keep it up. Never go hungry because you’re worried that you’d had too much fruit.
by (1.5k points)
@alver I agree! I've lost 80 lbs and I feel like fruit is always healthy, plus it' s 0 points on my plan. I was however on a mango and banana kick. I cut back on those when I started losing more slowly. Bananas are so much higher calorie than any type of berries, and mangos are VERY high.
by (9.4k points)
@castora it did, but I also upped my activity and focused on water drinking.
by (9.4k points)
@lavettelavigne yes! I do limit bananas to a coupe a week. I would buy a bunch and feel like I had to eat them since they’d go bad. Now I eat one or two a week. They are very sweet to me and curb any sweet craving.

by (610 points)
@optics I love grapes but I read they were high in sugar. I was eating all kinds of them but when I started to see I wasnt losing I started to try to figure out why. I lowered them to 10 just see if it would make a difference.
by (5.1k points)
@optics did it make a difference.
by (4.9k points)
@pappy no . I eat fruit 3 or 4 times a day. Grapes are the ones I pig out on. As long as I eat enough protein I can handle the sugar in fruit.

I personally think it is because of all the sugars that are in those particular fruits. If you love fruit I would try to alternate every meal with fruit, then veggies, so morning- banana, snack, celery, carrots and tomatoes, dinner lots of veggies and evening snack fruit

Fruit is a tricky slope for some. Yes, it is better than eating junk, but it is a sugar. So I agree with the suggestion of switching to just berries for a week as they are the lowest in sugar and are high in fiber. Grapes make me gain and I have to be very moderate with bananas. Actually I only use them to bake with.

I recently had my check up and my cholesterol came back a little high so since I really don't want to go on meds I have done some research on how to lower cholesterol naturally. I came across the Mediterranean Diet and I am starting to eat very clean and leave the process foods alone. But what I am getting to is they say you should eat 7 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Red grapes are very good for you because they help with your cholesterol. Also apples, berries. So eat your fruit it is good for you.

No one ever got fat on fruit alone. May have gotten fat from adding fruit to an already poor diet. But, fruit is not fattening. Fruit with high fat foods, or fruit with simple carb foods is not good. But, if all you ate was lean meats, low-fat dairy, low-carb veggies, & fruit, you'd be hard-pressed to be able to eat enough fruit to gain weight.

I don’t eat that much fruit because it stalls me. Sugar is sugar. Your body doesn’t know the difference between fruit sugar and table sugar. Berries are lowest and are my usual choice. I don’t eat bananas because they are all sugar and carbs and limit grapes because they are sugary as well, but this is my choice. I am a bit insulin resistance and lots of fruit just isn’t in the cards for me if I want to lose. If you’re losing then keep doing it. If not, maybe change the types of fruit you’re eating or eat a bit less of them and more non starchy veggies.
by (6.7k points)
@pelham1 I’m so glad I read this. I feel the same way. Do you think it’s still bad to eat a cup of blueberries at night? My weight loss is less than a snail’s pace.
by (7.1k points)
@destructible maybe half a cup? I’m a fruit lover also. Usually have a cup of strawberries with breakfast and a small apple at night with a tablespoon of whipped peanut butter. During the day if I feel hungry I grab a few grapes or half a banana ( I look for the smaller ones at the grocers). I try not to overdo with the fruit.
by (6.7k points)
@caseycash thank you
by (1.5k points)
@destructible blueberries are very low sugar, but I might limit to a half cup and maybe have some carrots or cucumber sticks for half if you need to munch on something. I tend to snack on veggies late at night if I get hungry. I like the low cal ranch, just a couple teaspoons to dip in with them.
by (6.7k points)

Fruit is good, but it does also have calories. Unless you’re still hungry, I would cut the fruit out until you need a snack between meals. Have your meals 3x a day, with at least 4 hours in between

So unless you feel stuck and are not losing weight (and some months are slow) keep eating the fruit. It brings you joy. This is a life style change not a diet, you must enjoy your food. ❤️

Fruit is a good source of fiber and vitamins. Just remember to mix veggies in with your meals. I am diabetic and the menus that I have been given allows for that much fruit. Remember your health and nourishment come first, then your weigh loss plan. If you ignore your cravings, you are likely to fail. Talk to your online coach at WW and get expert advice. Not a housewife like me.

I KNOW I didn't get fat eating too much fruit. I went without it for many years and still gained weight, so now I am enjoying about 4 servings of fruit per day. I do need to eat more vegetables and am always working on that. Lost 33 at age 70, put 10 back on over the winter/quarantine but have now taken off 4 of those 10. Don't give up. Enjoy your fruit.

This is unscientific, but one day a week I purposely under-eat my points. Every couple of weeks I over-eat my points either with extra wine, or perhaps a meal of spaghetti and garlic bread. something not great for WW menus, but I think those things, over and under, sometimes, jars my system to be more efficient

I’ve been off & on WW for 40 years. I’ve always been successful eating a lot of both fruit & vegetables. I have frequently been told by others the following: 1. Fruit has too much sugar - you’re diabetic & should not eat it 2. Bananas are fattening! You should not eat them 3. You won’t lose weight if you eat fruit What I found to actually be true I found ALWAYS that I lost weight when I followed the program & are within my point range NO MATTER how much fruit I ate. I started to gain weight when I got OFF WW & started to eat more processed food. Fruit is not the problem! The problem is cake, cookies, chips, do nuts etc. in excess.

Seems like a lot of natural sugar to me. Natural sugar raises your insulin as does regular sugar therefore could trigger an adverse affect on blood sugar and affect weight. I stick to no more than 2 servings a day. It’s just my personal preference. Better to be safe than sorry.
