When calculating net worth, yes. When you consider the value of your home, calculate the mortgage in your liabilities and the equity will help offset the liability.

When calculating net worth you would add in the total value and subtract the debt. Net worth is total value of all assets minus liabilities.

thanks. I have just heard some financial people say they don't consider a mortgage an actual debt (I guess because you can sell it? ) so it confuses me.

This may be an absurd question, but does checking to see what you qualify for in regard to a mortgage do anything to your credit score?

First time post but wondering what you guys do when your monthly mortgage payment goes down due to taxes/escrow(not entirely sure why but I feel like the start of every year it either goes up or down slightly) I still have our previous amount budgeted but should I adjust down (thinking not) or continue to make my previous payment amount and apply the additional to principle(?)
