Does anyone else do monthly grocery shopping and then pay it with a cc? Preface- we have a cashless system at the moment, I budget 250 per paycheck (biweekly) to cover groceries. I set the money aside in a savings account (along with our other variable spending) and then pay off the cc with that money when the new pay period comes. I really want to do monthly grocery shopping, I created an entire meal plan for March and if I go to Costco and get everything in bulk for the month it will only cost us about $300 for groceries (leaving us with about $30 a week for fresh produce/milk). My question is- since we don’t have this money set aside yet, I technically could still put it all on the credit card and pay off half with the first paycheck and half with the other since it will be the same billing cycle- but is this starting a bad habit? I was thinking I could put the extra money we save into a “grocery” sinking fund so eventually I would have all of the money in cash to cover the monthly expense.

It took me a couple months to get here but March is the first month I am here. I got paid today so I hVe front loaded me entire grocery and gas budget for the both out of that paycheck and the bills in the first half of the month. Then the second half of the month I will not be placing any funds into those envelopes because I was running into an issue like that where the beginning of the month I spent way more than the second half of the month. Hope that makes sense. Takes timing and planning tho.

My first question is do you have room to store all that? How would you keep a month’s worth produce fresh? Do you have a big enough freezer? Other than dry and paper goods I have no idea how people by that much food without multiple fridges/freezers.

@neral yes I do the local produce stand weekly for fresh food/milk. And we have 2 fridge/freezers and a deep freezer so we have plenty of room to store

I do this with Sam's just pay off before billing cycle, earn $ back on gas and groceries, it usually pays for the membership and then some!

I buy about a months worth of groceries with my rewards card and pay it off as I’m leaving Costco. I would build up the funds to pay it back immediately before diving in, otherwise you could create a problem for yourself

For February I planned all the dinners and about half of the breakfasts. I spent $100 somehow I still managed to blow our already massive budget.

We have a good rewards card, so I buy ALL our groceries in that credit card and at the end of the month, pay it off. Interest doesn’t hit, I get rewards, and I shop in person or curbside. I track my grocery budget and if we don’t spend the entire amount budgeted, the extra money goes to a sinking fund.

I do! I use my Chase Sapphire card for all my grocery and household bills and pay off every 2 weeks. I actually still take my allotted grocery money out in an envelope, use a tracker in my wallet and deposit the amount I used to pay off the credit card. It’s a few extra steps (something my husband would never do) but I don’t mind, it keeps me on budget and I earn points towards airline miles
