So I did my first Walmart delivery this week! I signed up for the free trial to see if I liked it (I figured $98 for the year is pretty reasonable since it’s so convenient and I can split it with my parents who live on our street). That being said - I totally thought I read that you didn’t have to tip the delivery drivers. I didn’t tip cash, but went to my app and it told me to rate and tip my driver. Is tipping the drivers required? I thought they were on a regular wage and didn’t work for tips so I was surprised when I saw that! For clarification I used the Walmart grocery app directly!

I believe for the drivers (as you would pizza or any other delivery type service) but when you do pick up they don't do tips. Eta- tipping for services I don't think is often "required" just pretty standard.

The use delivery drivers from Doordash, which they, we, don't get a set wage. Tips are always appreciated. I know here in my area we don't make a lot on Walmart orders. I live in a decent sized city.

You should tip for Walmart delivery, but for pick up it’s not allowed.

Your delivery driver is not a Walmart employee. They contract with Doordash to make their deliveries.

The standard for any 3rd party driver whether for groceries or food is a tip. As a grocery delivery person myself I can tell you some trips, specially pick ups are extremely low pay, ($5. 00) and a huge reason I stopped taking them was these orders (lets say click list where the groceries are already done and they just need to be “shipped”) are often incredibly long and carry heavy items. The list may tell you 5 items what it doesnt detail its it may be 5 giant packs of water or cans or large heavy items. I was deflated carrying a 250. 00 order across an apt building at 6 months pregnant with no tip; on time and without any help at all. As a server as well, at least in tx it is disheartening when you treat your guests well on a $2. 19 hourly wage, on a 100+ tab that you have to tip bartenders and busboys when youre stiffed. Please, always make an effort to tip.

@stylite yes that's the part people don't seem to understand. They stand there and we have to carry everything. I don't even carry my own groceries. And then you're trying to hurry so you can get back on to your next order and hope that you get a tip.

I work for Walmart OGP. The delivery drivers in my area are contracted through Door Dash and aren’t Walmart employees. We cannot accept tips when you come to the store to pick up an online order, but the drivers are allowed to accept them.

I tip. I know for a fact me not wandering those aisles has saved me money . so I will gladly pay someone $15 vs me having no impulse control and spending an extra $150 on random things I “need” . i just know myself and it’s worth it to me. I also did the target version of this and it’s really good they usually text you as they are shopping for you if they need to ask you a question . or vice versa like I didn’t want to order bananas without knowing if they were good or not . so when they said they got the order and we’re about to start shopping I said let me know if the bananas are worth buying and she did ! She just adds it to the order.

It is common courtesy to tip any kind of delivery. I even leave water & snacks out for the guy that brings all my Amazon deliveries.

They are doing you a favor of bringing your items to your door, the least you could do is tip them.

I’ve been using these services since they’ve started and have met so many different people. College students trying to make money in between busy class schedules, single parents trying to pay their electric bill, elderly to pay for their spouses medications and some help do it just to keep busy. Think about why you don’t go to the store. You don’t want to spend the tine in the store or carry it up your stairs, in the rain or the heat. common courtesy is to provide a tip. They get paid very minimal and they supply their own gas for their vehicles. It’s a form of thanking them for the service they as an individual provided, and keep in mind, if something is wrong with your order it is NOT the drivers fault. Walmart has people who do the in store shopping, the. The drivers just pick it up from the store to bring to you.

When you do Drive Up at the store no tipping. They are on regular salary and I was told they cant accept tips. Delivery though I would assume it's like any other delivery service and tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, everyone! Definitely didn’t need to be educated on tipping itself, was just asking about the practice through Walmart. Gonna stick to pick up so I can stay closer to my budget!
