I’ve seen posts about this before so I hate to ask, but recommendations for saving on tv expenses? We currently have DirecTv and AT&T internet. Paying around $160/month. Internet is $52/month (included in the $160). Requirements: Disney Junior and Freeform for my son, Allllll the sports channels for my husband (ESPN, SEC network) HGTV and a few other channels for myself. I’m noticing that most streaming options do not offer hunting type channels, like outdoor network or the Sportsman Channel or RDFtv. I’ve considered purchasing a Roku to move us over to streaming but can’t decide what’s best! Hulu +live tv is $54. 99/month Netflix is $12. 99/month and the Disney+ and ESPN+ add on is around $10 more. Add all of that to our internet price and I’m right back at $131, which does save almost $30/month but is that worth all the trouble of switching AND losing some of the channels we watch? I know this is a lot of info, but opinions on what option sounds best? I’m almost convinced to just stick with what we currently have and just call the retention department to find some more deals! Ugh!

We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and a TV antenna for local networks. I love allll the sports too, but made the decision to let most of it go. I still get a subscription to Hulu Live or You Tube TV for college football season, and once the season was over, I let it go. For my kiddo, a lot of the TV shows he liked on PBS were on Amazon Prime, and he has found quite a few on Netflix he likes. He really hasn't missed the other stuff too much. Come fall, I will get one of the streaming services for my football again!

@redolent good to know. That’s obviously the biggest concern for my husband is football season lol

I totally get that! I found that Hulu Live last season was plenty. I am a huge SEC fan, and I could pick up any game I felt like I needed to watch with it.

There's a package that's disney+/hulu/ESPN for $12. 99/mo total. Who's your mobile provider?

Hulu+Disney plus+ ESPN is 12. 99 per month? Why do you need live? You can watch almost any show that comes on to the next day on Hulu. I’d cut everything and keep Netflix and add the one I mentioned above.

We don’t have the same channel concerns as you but I just did this. We left Uverse and got YouTube. I decided saving is saving no matter how small ($about 50 or so for us) and we don’t watch all the channels anyway; truly it was just a comfort zone thing. Not willing to let go the familiar bc it’s easier.

Have you looked at slingtv? It’s the only one with outdoor networks.

We had DirectTv and AT&T internet. It was Mobile Internet. You CANNOT have Hulu if you have mobile internet. You need a static IP address so they can geolocate you, and mobile internet does not do that. So if you have the mobile internet, Hulu is not an option unless you get rid of the internet too. If you have AT&T’s other internet you should be okay.

We use sling at our house. I have both the blue and orange packages, and a couple add ons. Still came out cheaper that direct TV was for us

I have dish and pay $80 a month. I called several times and spoke to different people trying to get the lowest offer. If they couldn't give me a deal, I hung up and called back:) I always got someone different!

I will say when I cancelled my dish service a couple years ago they offered me to keep their service for $40. I was so mad because I had been paying 90+ and then they wanted to cut the bill in half?!

We have youtube tv. almost $49. 99+ tax, has a couple of disney channels, a lot of sports channels (espn, espn2, fox sports 1&2, golf, etc), freeform, amc, HGTV, tlc and local channels, etc. they also have add-on channels such as showtime, etc. I believe it's the best when it comes to cable alternatives

Personally I think it comes down to needs vs wants. You have to really want to get out of debt to sacrifice your needs. No child or husband will be harmed with less channels. Maybe it will free them up for more productive activities? Good luck!
