How much ‘cushion’ do you have in your regular bank account? I have about $2, 375 in my account. I have $100 in my EF, yes I’ll be putting $900 to make that to $1000. I’m thinking about tackling some of my debt with the rest of it but again I also bought a car and I want to be able to have that money for ‘car maintenance’ just incase

@quintessa how much do you add per paycheck for car maintenance?

@adenaadenauer446 75 to 150. My dad always says that expect to spend $1000 a year a car maintenance. Sometimes all at once sometimes $80-$100 at a time. So I felt comfortable with making up $500 every 3 months give or take a little.

As far as bills go , can you cover this months and still do those things ?

@scheider8 I do get paid twice and it equals out to be $1600 for March.

@adenaadenauer446 I would pre pay those bills then use that next check towards debts , then do the same thing for next month. I think it can prevent from any surprises . Either way, great job working on a plan!

I keep about a $300 buffer in the account. That would cover all of my automatic withdrawal bills plus a little extra, in case I “space” something for some reason. I do about $60/month for car maintenance, that covers tags, oil for changes (we do our own) and parts of need be, but we know we need to get a new part for my car this month, so I bumped that amount up to $80 for this month just to give ourselves a little bit extra and my husband has overtime.

We don't keep a cushion. For us, once its gone its gone works.

I keep a $200 cushion, because you never know when a bill might be higher one month or a glitch happens and it gets withdrawn twice.

I like a cushion because even though I made a master list of expenses, i still have forgotten some. Also, my children tell me at the last minute things going on that they need money for . I am currently working on building the cushion, I'd like to get it to 1, 000.

I keep an extremely small cushion ($25-50) because I tend to impulse buy. Husband and I put approximately $20 a check into an auto maintenance fund.

I always have $1, 000 in my account only bc I have a “fear” that if the account goes below that I’m broke. And I’m working on my EF. About half way there.
