I’ve heard that even if you make monthly payments on time, there are “unsaid” rules about keeping your credit score up. By making sure you use it and not just let it sit there and to only use a certain amount of your limit, etc. ( I hope this makes sense). Is it bad to open a credit card and not use it often?

I just pay off all my balances by the due date so that I can get the rewards benefits. Pays for a 2-3 roundtrip flights a year. I just track all my expenses on index cards and make sure I charge within my category limits. This keeps a healthy credit score and no revolving debt/interest payments!

Keep utilization under 30%. To avoid the interest, pay off your balance in full by the due date but make a charge on it before the reporting date (the date they report to the credit bureaus). This way it will show that you’re actively using your card but also being responsible with it. Plus, you can get all the credit card perks without the interest fees!
