I’m a single lady and desperately want to have a baby in my future with or without a partner. Has anyone saved to have a baby on their own? What was an average cost? I’d love to save now so when I am debt free and ready I won’t have to save at that time! Thanks in advance

First Check with your insurance and see what is and isn't covered. and my gf is doing it now - shes on her third round and so far has spent about 25k.

@siegfried929 - that's like everything however. Her insurance is hardly picking up anything other than her labs and some of her procedure costs. So she had the sperm donation cost, the initial meet with her fertility clinic - that blood work, they blew out her tubes - bunch of stuff. I am doing IVF and we know minimum it will be 5k for us, not all the medication is covered by my insurance either, so I am in some IVF giving groups local to me that woman are gracious enough to donate - but otherwise we will have that cost as well. Last year we had already reached our deductible, and I still had a almost $500 bill after insurance for my first meeting with the new clinic - all the did was draw some blood, do an internal ultrasound and send me home with some paper work and prenatals.

-A years salary for your expenses. Even if you do FMLA, you’ll have it for any emergencies that may arise. -Then you’ll need to make sure you have your OB care deductible + any additional pop up bills such as out of network labs or anesthesiologists. -Anything the baby will need you can buy in advance such as clothes, wipes, and diapers. Plan to use a daycare or a family member for care? Start pricing it out then saving for that too. -Maternity leave is covered under short term disability but your plan may have a waiting period. Mines was for 12months before I could use the coverage. Also get the hospital indemnity if it’s offered, mine pays $2k for any hospital stay over 2 days. Anything that will put extra money in your pocket while on FMLA leave.
