Hey TBM fam, I'm really hoping for some words of encouragement, advice, good vibes, etc. This week has been rough and it's only Tuesday :( Backstory: I was in a car accident on Sunday and it looks like insurance may be leaning towards totaling my car. No injuries to myself, my fiance, or the other driver but my issue is that I just recently moved from NC to OH in August 2019, and my NC insurance renewed in October 2019 (I was on my dad's plan). While our plan is full coverage, the insurance company is performing an investigation as to whether or not they will approve the claim since my car was already OH prior to insurance renewing. The officer said I was at fault, so if my insurance isn't approved, my dad is worried that not only will we not get a payout for my totaled car, but that the other driver's insurance will sue for cost of damage incurred to their car. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What was your outcome and how did you financially handle it? I have a feeling I'm going to need a car before we'll hear back about my insurance. I'm just starting on this journey and I don't have an EF to buy a cheap car in cash, and I would need a cheap car payment if I had to go that route. Should I lease a used car? New? Having a car payment was not in my forseeable future at all as we had just finished paying off my car and I had planned to keep it for at least another 3 years. All I can see are dollar signs racking up

Do you have rental insurance on your policy?

@chalcopyrite51997 no, I don’t. I’m on my dad’s insurance until my fiancé could add me to his, but we couldn’t do that until his tags and license were changed and he’s currently in the process of changing all of that now.

@luckin yes, it was paid off last summer

The cheapest option is to find a used car that would work for you -- around $5k-$7k and get a credit union loan to pay for it.

Is the car in your dads name? My daughter is in SC but car is in my name. I live in NY. Daughter listed as a driver on my policy. Any claim would be covered. Retired insurance agent.

@northeaster the car is in my dads name. I have the title but hadn’t gotten around to switching it over yet. This gives me hope!
