Where would one go to buy a car with bad or no credit? I will have a 1200 dollar down payment but I doubt any banks will approve me for a loan. I don't want to get scammed at a buy here pay here place but I fear that's my only option.

Whatever you do, do not go to a Buy Here, Pay Here place. If you’ve exhausted all options, I still wouldn’t go to one.

ETA: My MIL keeps going around to different buy here, pay here lots every 6 months or so because they keep repossessing her car. She’s gotten herself into a very negative position. Her payments are absolutely ridiculous. I think one vehicle, she was paying $500-600 for a $100/mo car.

Why not buy a 1200 car?

@coward915 I want something that will last a long time and hopefully has some kind of warranty.

@hypotrachelium9449 If you can't get a loan that will be your only option. You will get scammed at a buy here pay here place. The 1200 car isn't forever. it's to get you by until you build credit/save more money.

Years ago after my ex husband and I filed bankruptcy we bought a car at a buy here pay here place that had good reviews. Not our ideal choice but we needed a car and it felt so good when it got paid off.

You will probably need to get financed through a credit union. I would check anywhere else before going to a buy here pay here place.

First class. Try there first. They have reasonable vehicles. We have gotten three from there. All still doing great

I would still check dealerships/actual good used car dealerships. Well the more reputable ones. That dont do inhouse financing.

If you save just a little more money, Toyotas and Hondas are very reliable. You won't get a warranty but like I said, its not forever

Honestly if you are a credit union member talk to their finance department first. Also, ask them about who they partner with. My mom worked in loans for years at a CU and she knew the best car lots in town!

We used Drivetime but our payment and interest rate is ridiculous. Make sure you read everything and that you fully understand the loan agreement. They have refused to help us during covid19 so keep on mind those types of companies are predatory in nature

Try www. Carvana. com You can put in all your info online. They’ll even deliver the car to your house. That way you know how much you’ll be approved for and all the details of everything without going to an actual car place and being turned down.

Honestly I’d try going to a bank and seeing what your options are or even a dealership. My credit wasn’t the greatest a few years ago and was able to finance a brand new car (it was a better deal in the end and my brother was the salesman so I wasn’t getting screwed over) with just my crap trade in. Was the interest the greatest? No but it helped a ton in the long run to get what I have now.

Our credit wasn’t great, right around 600 and we were preapproved for Capital One financing

Where I live we have car dealerships that do work with bad credit. My mom has around a 550 and a dealership was working with her to get her into something on the cheaper side, but safe and with a warranty.
