Woah that’s a lot for two people! I’m in central California, family of 3, and have a budget of $500 but can get by on $350 if we don’t eat out.

What part of the state? I'm in Central CA and we have lots of options for grocery stores along with fruit stands during the spring-fall months. Where we are we have Savemart, Walmart, Winco, FoodMaxx, etc.

I’m in so cal. I go to Ralph’s. I’ve been going to wal-mart for a few things. And Costco. I’m recently separated and realized my ex spent a lot on meat. I mostly just buy ground beef and chicken breasts-and that has saved a lot.

We’re Southern California and spend $320 a month. We primarily shop at Albertsons and Costco, occassionally Aldi when we’re by one

I used to live in Cali. I would go to Winco, 99 cent store. Grocery outlet. Dollar Tree. Food maxx or food for less. before I had to savemart . I used to live in the Central Valley.

$600 is excessive  I would imagine with meal planning and even buying organic that you could get it down to $400

Try foodmaxx if you have it or winco,

Safeway is the most expensive by me. San Diego Ca. I shop Trader Joe’s and Target. Meat from butcher box or Costco. We now have ALDI. I heard they are budget friendly. Grocery outlet has some healthy finds.

I live in San Diego and spend $450 for 3 people (1 male teen garbage disposal) I get ads from my local markets on Monday. One place always has ground beef on sale $2. 19lb a certain day. Other local markets have t bones and sirlions on sale for under 2. 99$ a lb. I just shop sales and walmart. I could buy everything for $350 but I buy stuff goes my. keto diet that can be a lil more expensive.

I’m in NorCal! We shop at Costco and Sprouts- it’s about $700 a month. We eat whole foods, mostly organic produce + meat, not a lot of processed foods. It’s just me and my husband. If you don’t live in California I feel like people don’t understand how pricey it really is- when we lived on the east coast we spent about $300 a month. This state is so expensive!

I go to Aldi for a good amount. You have to try stuff. Some of it is exactly the same. Some things suck but you save a lot of money. I think of it as a small gamble to possible save a lot of money later. There’s an Aldi Nerds group that can be helpful but I don’t trust everyone’s judgement on there when it comes to things like coffee lol. I go to vons for other stuff that I want better quality for. Also Target but I’m an employee so I can get 10%-20% food, it’s limited on produce and meats I need but junk foods, snacks  they just had spend $50 and get a $10 gift card on food. (I traded the gift card with $10 from my household’s envelope)

I love safeway. I'm in central ca. I make dinner almost every night, and usually everything is from scratch. I buy most of my meat at Costco (household of 6 people but 2 of them are only 4, 5yrs) and the other items I can buy in bulk (milk, eggs, staples like tomato sauce) but all the other stuff I usually get at safeway and I use the app and savings on there, and save a lot. I spend about $600-$700 for all of us between both places.

When I lived in California I would have to go to a couple stores to get what I wanted for affordable prices. I would go to Trader Joe’s or Sprouts if you have one near by for produce, dairy and some dry goods, the rest I would pick up at target. Safeway often has good deals on meat, you just have to find them.

by (990 points)
@ruthful42513 it's hard to say in what it compares too, lol. Prices are cheaper than Walmart. Just a big grocery store.

I’m in LA county and I keep my monthly groceries around $500 for a family of 4. I shop the weekly ads. Albertsons/Vons $5 Friday’s and Sprouts double ad Wednesday’s is where I get the best deals on produce and meat. Then I do Walmart grocery pick up for any extra ingredients for my weekly meals and for toiletries/household items. Yes it’s more than one trip/store but it saves money!

Aldi has grass fed beef, Irish butter, organic produce and dairy and meat and poultry. Organic wines and beers and organic pasta, sauces, canned goods and frozen. I love their cheeses and imported charcuterie items and great immunity shots, kombucha, chocolates, plants for the house. Great produce. Excellent quality. I shop primarily the perimeter because I cook and try to cook healthy. Amazing savings

I honestly have found that ordering food off amazon on some things is cheaper as well as going to costco/Sam's. Example: I buy a specific brand of rice. It's like 5 bucks for 1lb bag at publix which is the only store I have found it. I can order a 5lb bag from amazon with prime for the same price. So getting more for my buck in my opinion.
