Good Morning!  I love this group, I love the feedback, advice and honesty from everyone.Good Morning! I love this group, I love the feedback, advice and honesty from everyone. I'm 60 yrs old, have never had good money management, if it was there it was to be spent. I just started this budget in January and love it, however, I have to tendency to throw myself in to something only to lose momentum quickly if I don't see any results or the results don't happen fast enough. We don't have any debt other than vehicles and a TV and we rent our home. We want to buy a house, but I'm afraid that I will lose motivation before we get the money saved since it will be a super slow process. My question is, how long has everyone been budgeting and how do you keep the motivation going? Thanks for your feedback.

Years ago we did the Dave Ramsey, and did really well paid off our debt except for our house. But had no savings. Then someone hit me and totaled my car, what insurance paid was no where near enough for another. So the debt started over, then my husband lost his job, it was a mess. Anyway I found TBM in November, realized we had 8 months to pay $3000 without finance charges, or we would have to pay back charges. I decided things needed to change. I have that debt goal in mind, after that our anniversary trip we have put off for two years. I want to live without stress, I think that is another big motivation for me.

I understand the loosing momentum thing. I'm pretty good at jumping in with both feet and moving like wildfire. then the fire dies down and I'm ready to move on to the next thing. I have realized that I can't be that way with my budget if I'm going to be able to continue living life the way I want to, so I have tried to make it fun. I made pretty envelopes, store them in a nice wallet (that was a splurge), use charts and graphs to see my progress, and I find the folk here are so inspiring and supportive that it makes keeping on keeping on fun. Good luck!
