Well today was a doozy. Got my hair done, went for a massage (80% covered by insurance), then proceeded to find myself at Sephora buying some new things, got my eyebrows threaded, and took myself out for lunch. Could that money have gone to debt? YES. Why did I spend so much on myself? Cause I’m a 23 year old registered nurse who puts everyone above herself and I never buy myself ANYTHING. But the best part of it all, although I did spend a couple hundred dollars, I had money in my bank account to do so! No, I didn’t necessarily budget for it, but it didn’t go on a credit card. Usually I feel guilty for spending money on myself, but today was different and I needed a self care day! Haven’t done something like that since before I started nursing school 4. 5 years ago!
Well today was a doozy.

Budget in regular massages. or whatever works best for you

@rede746 I just accepted a full time nursing position so my insurance will be covering 100% of the cost of massages every 3 weeks! ☺️

@ballerina not all insurances cover massages right? I’d like to look into this for my own benefit
by (700 points)
@kutchins Im not sure! I’m in Canada, so not sure what the US insurances are like!
by (1.3k points)
@kutchins If you’re in the US that’s absolutely true. A lot of them do not cover massages ask for your certificate of coverage to verify!

I’m a registered dental hygienist and absolutely have to put a 4 week massage into my budget. All that time spent hunched over other people it’s not a want, it’s a necessity in order to prolong my career.

I'm also an RN and I budget in some self care. My job takes A LOT from me. Its usually manicures for me since I'm allergic to the alcohol foam and my hands are torn up by the time I'm due for each one and the occasional splurge item. I can also totally see a massage because I am not 30 yet but already have knee and back issues from nursing. Enjoy!

Girl nursing is rewarding but HARD and overwhelming and draining. If we didn’t do that every now and then we would go mentally insane.

Hey girl! I’m 23 too! I also work extremely hard - it’s OKAY to treat ourselves! I feel the same way, I totally have enough but I feel guilty. Regardless, look at us paying attention to our finances at 23! I don’t know very many young adults that do!

Good for you! My question is how do you get insurance to pay for a massage?
by (1.3k points)
@labyrinthine my insurance covers them as well!
by (20.7k points)
@labyrinthine our Chiro is covered with insurance and since they do massages hubs gets that too. They only particularly cover acupuncture but it’s still a decent amount. They set it up for us with insurance. I’d just ask next time you go in

Ok I have to ask ? What is “”” I got my eyebrows threaded “””? Sounds painful  but what do I know . nothing . haha
by (4.5k points)
Back it up a sec. you got a massage and insurance covered almost the whole amount ? How? What ? Where ? Please tell ! And one last thing . you go girl. !
by (700 points)
@aiken this is google’s definition of threading! Hahah! Yeah, it’s through my hubby’s insurance, but when I start my new full time RN job next week, it’ll be under mine. I get a massage every three weeks, for the whole calendar year, and it’s 100% covered! I’m in Canada tho so now sure how it works in the states!

My husband works in the oilfield and we have a monthly massage budgeted for that reason. He is beat to hell after 15 days. Totally worth every dime for him to not be in pain. About every three months we do a couples massage. It is nice way to relax and have some us time.  Self care is no joke so you get a massage whenever you need it and dont feel bad about it. You are worth it! #nursesrock

Yeah girl! I'm an RPN in Ottawa and I need massages and a chiropractor to help me from becoming a patient myself. PS. My grandfather put up a set of those crosses across the river in Mattawa! My claim to fame in the north :)

I'm so glad you did this for yourself! Self care is so important esp being a nurse. I work for a hospice company and you dont realize when you really just need a break and have a reset.
