One more question I have a 19 year old son driving a 6 year old Hyundai. We are paying 2400 a year for insurance with State Farm any suggestions for a lower rate?

Call them ask if there is a way to lower it, and or ask the son to pay part of it. StateFarm is a thought cookie to get to lower things. When I was going to college I paid part of my insurance and my cell phone bill. It helped me with knowing how to budget my money at a young age.

@goldfarb9852 not really concerned with him paying it yet, he is working and going to school, he never asks ( we’ll rarely) for money from us. Including tuition, books etc.

Is he on your policy or does he have his own? Check with your agent. When all of our teens started driving, we bought cars for them to be the primary driver of ($2000 cars). In our state, there are a number of choices that you make that have to cover the entire policy. By buying separate policies for each child, we could make different, cheaper choices for them, even if the cars themselves were in our names. And once they graduated high school & put the cars in their names, they could elect lower policy limits & lower the premium even further. It’s kind of confusing if you don’t work in insurance & may not work that way in every stage, but it’s definitely worth talking to your agent. Also, it’s worth calling around to other companies for quotes. We have the coverage for our rental policies through SF because they are cheapest for that but our auto & homeowners is elsewhere bc it’s cheaper somewhere other than SF.

@sitology77 I’ll have to check on this. He is on our policy. The car is registered to us, but could be registered to him, it’s paid for.

I just used Gabi to check my rates, totally worth it to see who the best company was (then I called that company directly and got an even better rate).

That sounds entirely reasonable to me. Boys insurance doesn’t drop lower until age 25 . 21 for girls, that says it all right there. Statistics don’t lie and that age is in the highest loss range for ALL insurance carriers

@saboteur I claim bs on this. Neither mine nor my husbands insurance went down in price when we turn these respective ages. In fact, they just keep going up until we switched from Allstate to AutoOwners. Perfect driving records.

My two teens were automatically added when they got their licenses in Florida. We never added them. Boys are more. We pay $2400 for our boy who is also 19. It's a racket but we've checked around and in South Florida we're stuck with inflated rates.
