Somebody please help me A while ago my house cat came back with fleas and she went out again last night lo and behold this morning I’ve seen a flea! I have a 16 month old so getting this sorted ASAP is a priority I have 5 flea bombs that I’ve yet to use and a flea spray. Can anybody recommend how to get rid once and for all? I’ve off to pets at home to get a flea treatment as I know the vets aren’t open (this is why she hasn’t had another flea treatment) If I let off the bombs do I need to cover anything up in the room? I’m a single parent so can’t get anybody to watch baby while I do these things Thanks for any and all help!

Another vote for indorex I do our house every six months the kill any that come in on the cats.
by (4.2k points)
@countenance agreed. I only de flea my pets about twice a year as the Indorex does the trick and keeps them at bay.
by (1.8k points)
@illuminant same here and I have never had an issue. Our boy is out loads and goes to see the sheep.
by (4.2k points)
@countenance in our last house this was my routine and I never had an issue. When we moved here, to a new house, I got complacent and thought I’d be fine. Was fine for two years, no issues, then boom! So I’ve gone back to my old routine (after initially having to treat the house at least 3 times to get on top of it) and now we are back to normal. I will never get complacent again!

And we are in proper country area! Farmland, long grass, flea heaven!

Buy Indorex and Acclaim from Amazon. Use both, a day or two apart. Spray all over the house. Skirting boards, behind furniture, EVERYWHERE. Then hoover religiously everyday for two weeks. They’ll be gone, I promise. You must wash bedding etc too. Windows closed when you spray - everyone in garden ideally for an hour. Then open windows and again, ideally stay out for another hour or so.

@headsman Lollibrigida washing will not kill the eggs.

@hobbs7470 it will if it’s washed properly at 60 or 90 and then ideally tumble dried

The vets are open. They should be able to leave treatment to the side and you pick it up or post it out.

Indorex is brilliant and lasts for months once it's been sprayed on carpets and floors. It's usually half the price at Amazon compared to the vets x

You don't need to cover anything, however you will need yourself, your child and the cat completely out of the home whilst you do it.

You can buy a spray from pets at home (indorex) * ihas this prob last summer with my cat and dog it was a nitemare, chuck your rugs in the garage while you clean and spray the rest, I just hoovered and swept twice a day and checked and washed the dog all the time after treating him. Good luck it takes about 6weeks in all x

Make sure you get a decent spray. Need to spray everywhere including bedding as hot wash cycle not enough. Leave a good hour more if you can then air house and Hoover. You need to be out of property while this is done and dont spray with children in house. If you have aquatic in house cover tank well and remove pets.

Have to vacate with flea bombs. Indorex is fab, i sprayed all my rooms but covered the kitchen surfaces with black bin bags. Any blankets duvet covers, soft furnishings need to be wash at a high temp. I also used heated flea trap

Most sprays say to leave for 2 hours, if you have a fish tank that would need covering would cover babies toys or wipe them down after, also When getting flea treatment get advantage that does actually work and be careful on any advice Pets at home give you because they are often wrong.

Think it depends on your type of fogger I’ve used Bob Martin & I Hoover everywhere possible first and cover clothes and bedding etc ( polythene Bags ) close all windows and you have to evacuate the place for at least 2 hours ( other foggers can be upto 8 hours ) with your pet also do not leave them in with the flea bomb  upon return open all windows and air out for half hour or so before being in your property , hope this helps

And another tip is buy a flea collar from Amazon whilst you’re buying the Indorex and Acclaim and stick that in your hoover bag. Just ensures any eggs or babies you hoover up can’t hatch.

Vet UK's own spot on treatment is good and cheaper than frontline. Lots of hoovering every day, stamps mopping (if you have one) and daily spraying of a good flea spray. Just be careful of little one.

Spray white vinegar on everything fabric in the house. Clean the floors with it too. Spray everything daily! Wash your clothes & bedding on high temperatures. Try and live in one room at a time while you deflea the others. Spray it all over the cat daily as well.
by (12.6k points)
@buna18164 old wives tale I’m afraid  "Flea prevention is about sterilizing or killing the flea eggs and larvae. . In short: using vinegar solution or white vinegar on your pet's fur will not kill fleas.
by (1.4k points)
@aleenaleetha It really does work. I've used this method multiple times as I've been to clients houses and brought fleas home. It works if you do this daily and ensure the animal is covered in the spray daily.
by (12.6k points)
@buna18164 I’m sorry but if it did work there wouldn’t be a necessity for correct treatment Vets would advise you to just use vinegar
by (1.4k points)
@aleenaleetha Ok well I have 5 dogs and 2 cats without fleas and if I've brought them home on clothing I quickly get rid of them. I add garlic into their food weekly too as a preventative.
by (12.6k points)
@buna18164 I cant imagine licking Vinegar (acidic) off their fur everyday would do them much good either
by (1.4k points)
@aleenaleetha It really doesn't harm them at all. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar is fantastic in their water bowl for all kinds of problems.

Vacuum, empty vacuum, vacuum some more, empty vacuum, wash everything that will go through the washer. Repeat every day, you have to break the cycle. Get into all the nooks and crannies with the vacuum, round the edges of mattresses, down the sides of settees, along the skittering boards and carpet edges. Good luck!

You can still get meds and flea treatments etc off vets. They are still open, just not doing face to face visits unless it’s a life or death emergency situation. You’ll be able to get telephone consultations and meds. Practices may be running this on a rota basis with all the other practices in your area, so if your practice isn’t open, try another local one.

If you have to be home when you set off the bombs, I would put you and your baby in 1 room, make sure there is a towel at the bottom of the door and a window open. Set the bombs off in rest of house. Wait til its time, open all other windows, go to that part of the house and then put a bomb back in the room that's left. That's how I did it with my cat
by (1.6k points)
@steamroller0 she can't stay in the house whilst bombing it you ha e to leave it for two hours and leave the windows open after the time don't even leave plant's in the house as it will kill and damage everything
by (1.1k points)
@cupola you can be home as long as you arent in the room you have set the bomb off in. You can have the windows open and a towel at the door (in the room without the bomb). I have about 30/40 houseplants and I've done this before with the cat and plants in 1 room. This is just my experience and it worked perfect
by (1.6k points)
@steamroller0 nope do it with yourself don't advise others it says in the instructions not too so am I going to listen to the manufacturers instructions written on the actual label or somebody from a Facebook page just because it worked for you that way my experience as ex vet nurse is it causes complications with breathing and irritation to the lung it's fine particles it's an irritant especially now during these times
by (1.1k points)
@cupola well I didnt tell you to do it, I offered my experience. Have a good day ‍♀️
by (1.6k points)
@steamroller0 no you offered your experience to a mother of a young baby
by (1.1k points)
@cupola I'm sure this woman is intelligent enough to read my experience and make up her own mind if she thinks it's safe for her to do or not. I didnt claim to be an expert, I literally said "this is how I did it". People have free will, I'm not forcing anybody to follow what I did

So I could do it tonight when she’s in bed and just do it downstairs then upstairs tomorrow? Xxxx
by (5.2k points)
You need to air the room for two hours after using the bomb. Remove all food and water and pets. To get rid of the fleas on the cat you will need to buy something that costs at least £20, or sign up to pets at home subscription for £5 a month flea treatment with 1 pipette a month. Using anything that isn’t locked behind glass as a flea treatment likely won’t work. You might need to repeat the flea bombs a second time as they don’t always kill the larvae
by (1.8k points)
@annunciator no please dont do it with any 1in the house not u or the baby or a pet
+316 votes
by (12.6k points)
@annunciator you can order flea treatment on line and it’s not expensive, but rem if your Cat goes out at anytime day or night they need flea treatment at least every three months, always use the proper stuff, also when they have fleas they very often have worms too as the worm egg lives inside the flea and hatches when your Cat grooms itself so it’s a good idea to flea/worm at the same time xx

Do all you mentioned but I order to get rid of them in the house but also comb the cat with water that has a tiny amount of washing up liquid in it around twice and day until you’re sure they have gone. That was the most effective way I found when my cat had them.

Hi, sorry if it’s already need said but pets at home do a monthly subscription for flea treatments etc that they send to your home & works out cheaper. I get frontline for 2dogs & 2cats. No fleas. I did have a problem awhile ago deffo hoover all the time. I have a council house & rang them & explained I have a problem with fleas & had tried loads of stuff to get rid & wasn’t getting anywhere. My anxiety was bad as well they came out & sprayed the whole house. We had to stay out for afew hrs which I know isn’t ideal at this current time

I really wouldn't use flea bombs with a baby in the house. Use the monthly flea treatment drops on the cat. Any fleas in the house should be attracted to the cat (they really don't thrive on humans), and they should die on the cat.

You need Indorex spray for the carpets, sofas, beds all soft furnishings. You need to buy spot on treatment from the vets and apply every month. The shop bought treatments DO NOT WORK. They are not strong enough to completely Kill and stop the cycle.
