Try hot soapy water swirled round several times, each time dry with paper kitchen towel. normally works for me.

I used to make candles and the best for cleaning wax was just washing up liquid by itself . Comes off easily

I slowly heated 2 up in front of the gas fire before adding the water. The third (which I had forgotten about) I just added the boiling water - cracked but not shattered, so still usable
