Any mamas here started speech therapy for their kids? Especially during this pandemic ? Just got back from doctors and applied/filled out paperwork for my 2year old. He talks a good amount of words but definitely not where he should be. I’m not too worried and I know so many people who do speech therapy for their kids. but just wondering how it’ll be during this time, especially since not doing house visits ‍♀️ we take our kids to Lutheran Yachtman group children hospital. Thanks in advance for any insight/advice/wisdom ❤️ Hope you all are doing well and stay safe ❤️

We had speech therapy before this all started. A couple weeks off and tried teleatherapy. It didnt work for us. For the hour that was planned she may have only spent 5 minutes and us chasing her for the rest of the time. But every child and every therapist is different.

That’s why I opted not to do teletherapy. I don’t think My would have paid attention or wanted to meet with the therapist. It’ll be better once we can do it in person.

We were supposed to start speech, then all this started. The office only offered televisits, but I opted to wait until we can go into the office again. I hope I made the right decision.

Kai has been in speech therapy for over a year now. Once all of this started we switched to teletherapy. It’s a lot of work for me since I have to do it with him, keep him focused, etc etc. but it’s just like when we go to the office. He leads the sessions and we follow him and incorporate what’s needed. It’s difficult at times but over all he’s been doing great with teletherapy. Since kai has been doing it for a while before this it helped that he knows his therapist and is excited to call her twice a week and play. You can message me if you want ☺️

We were in speech through early intervention before covid started and had a few weeks off while they transitioned to tele-speech. It’s definitely not the same, but we are still making progress. It may be difficult to start that way, but you could at least get some tips on things to work on at home. Good luck!

Hi there  I asked something very similar to this a few weeks back and I was lucky to get a bunch of information from this group of wonderful ladies. This is where I started, Child & Family Connections in a Arlington Heights. I called and left a message, within hours they called me back and gathered some more information from me and maybe 5 days later I received a questionnaire in the mail. The same day I received my paperwork our assigned caseworker was calling me to schedule a over the phone appointment just to get to know more of our needs. She was able to schedule an intake appointment within 5 days, in the meantime I was emailed some more documents for review and to fill out. The intake interview was done over the phone, my husband and I both sat in on the call and it took a little over an hour, we reviewed all the documents emailed to us and then she asked some more questions about our 2 year old. She explained that we may have someone scheduled to come to our home by mid-June, depends on how state offices will conduct business after re-opening. Hope this helps. Don’t stress mama, just make the call. I was so very pleasantly surprised how easy the process has been so far. Best of luck to you.
