Serious question, and I’m NOT looking for negative responses so PLEASE be nice! While we are getting ready to enter this phase 3 plan and I’m reading state parks, tennis courts, golf, and outdoor restaurant seating is opening. what does this mean for our playgrounds? They never specify playgrounds but do mention children’s summer activities can resume. anyone know what’s up? Can we play again in 9days? Please please please be nice! Not looking for arguments!

We went to Wisconsin today and everything was open! Parks, beaches, restaurants.

Vesna, shhhhhh this has been my spot for years!

Yeah. my sister lives in one of those “cute little towns” in Wisconsin and they are all basically horrified the parade of cars coming from out of state.

@nowhere it’s so beautiful!

@nganngc6214 what did you do about using the bathroom?
by (4.4k points)
@eugeniusz there is a public bathroom available at the beach.

I’m not optimistic because it would have to be on the “honor system” to keep it to gatherings or less than 10 people.
by (4.4k points)
So like 10 kids per park? I could see that do-able in some parks but most around here prob have more on nice days! Plus I’m guessing they will be swarming with people when open because we can’t do much else  Maybe a sign up sheet  pick a time slot to play

I hope so. Broke my heart when my 4 year was sobbing the other day because she wanted to play on the playground.

I’m unsure unless somebody is going to be sanitizing the equipment daily.

I hope so. The plan was never to eradicate the virus, it was to flatten the curve.

Just because they're open, I wouldn't indulge. I'm mildly freaking out because i'm going to be called back to work. I'm a bartender, and 9 week pregnant. I've been looking for a new job since I found out, and restaurants are ground zero. I can only imagine how contaminated playgrounds can be.

Does summer activities include limited numbers for summer camp?
by (3.3k points)
@impromptu Park Ridge cancelled theirs and said they will either do virtual or smaller numbers

I bought a pool and a trampoline. Not planning on taking my son anywhere this summer.
by (1.8k points)
@ungula me neither.
by (2.2k points)
@ungula same. We bought a pool and a jungle gym.
by (10.6k points)
@ungula this is our exact plan.
by (3.4k points)
Laura, if you are planning on it, I’d start looking now. I had to drive up to Wisconsin to get the pool I wanted!
by (710 points)
@ungula same. Sure kids are gonna be sad about it, but I can deal with temporary crying over not going to a playground if it keeps my daughter safe for the long term. DP has the highest number of reported cases out of all the surrounding Chicago suburbs. The fact that anyone would even consider going to a playground right now baffles me.
by (6.8k points)
@ungula well that’s awkward because WE’RE COMING OVER!
by (3.4k points)
Danielle, shhhhhh.
by (3.4k points)
I don’t need the whole DP showing up Boyle Park.

@ungula My big pregnant ass jumping into your pool.

Not sure but just as a reminder that kids are the lowest at risk of catching the virus. Also, CDC just came out and said there was no study that proved that people can actually catch the virus from a surface that's been contaminated
by (3.4k points)
Sary, I won’t risk it.
by (4.1k points)
@calculus I wouldn't risk it either. The CDC keeps changing their minds, not worth the risk.

I don't think so the whole point is to keep groups of kids away from each other while walks are one thing groups at the park are just like groups at the schools Except at school teachers will have to sanitize between groups of kids Will people sanitize the parks? Nope

I’m thinking no on playgrounds because they can’t sanitize the equipment between uses.

Parents could use hand sanitizer on their kids hands

I’ll take mine to the playground. They can strip in the garage & hit the showers.

What about the pools?
by (4.4k points)
@murmuration from what I’ve seen most of the pools around the area are not opening and if they do it will be limited capacity (like 50-100 people) the big ones like mystic and oasis aren’t opening
by (1.2k points)
@swords what about Chippewa or Iroquois?
by (4.4k points)
@murmuration I read somewhere that if the park district is allowed to open pools they can quickly open those two because they are smaller. however it doesn’t appear to be part of phase 3

Good question! I honestly don’t know. Part of me says yes, as long as there are 10 or less people, but part of me thinks no because there would be no deep cleaning of the equipment.

It looks like the park district is keeping this page updated with closures/opening procedures. Playgrounds are also listed (currently closed as we know)

Does anyone know of any forest preserves or other areas that are more open that we could go explore and take a nice long walk? Getting sick of our neighborhood
by (4.4k points)
@eugeniusz I found an awesome one! Catherine Chevalier Woods! There is so much wildlife for the kids to see and one way on the trail leads to an overpass where you want watch cars on 294, trains and even big planes fly over!
by (690 points)
@eugeniusz I am offended!  Beck Lake has a trail and the lake is lovely. This is where we go (went ) for Free Forest School. I heard the parking lot is closed on the weekends but the FPDCC doesn’t list it on their site as such.
by (700 points)
@eugeniusz park at bisons fluff and walk the trails there! We did last weekend
by (710 points)
@swords thank you! This sounds great.
by (710 points)
@olney can you step it up please? Maybe a song or dance as I walk by?
by (710 points)
@pallet oh yes! We will try it.
by (690 points)
@eugeniusz I’ll do my best to gyrate at the front door whenever I see you walking by!
