Warm compresses and or a wet teabag preferably chamomile applied to her closed lid might also help. Looks like a sty on her lower lid. I’ve always been told calling dr is important bc it’s such a delicate area. Good that you called the doctor. Oh another Thing i was told for a sty is to use a clean q tip with a tiny dab of baby wash and warm water start at the corner away from the sty and wipe the lashes/lid across cleaning the affected area last so you are not spreading the bacteria.

@feil6 thank you. Yes, I called first thing this morning. Just not sure if I should call or just take her to the eye doctor . Maybe less people and distancing? I'll try the warm compress.

@fidelfidela13 you are right I agree about eye doctor. Good luck and she is a cutie!

Looks like a stye. Warm/hot compresses with soft movement while eye is closed to the area a few times a day. May drain quickly or not (could be a few weeks+).

@unemployable thanks! Trying it now

My mom used to rub her gold wedding band on those - stye?
by (1.4k points)
@mcclure my mom always did this too. I usually don’t believe in old wives tales like that, but this one always seemed to work. ‍♀️
by (5k points)
It truly did! Granted, rubbing your eyelid was uncomfortable but it did the job
by (3.2k points)
@mcclure Wasiłowski my grandmother did that too!

Did you give her Benedryl? Or have you ever used a tea bag to reduce the swelling? My kids have really bad allergies and it usually settles in their eyes!
by (3.2k points)
@explicate82 I did not. Boiling some tea now to try that. Thanks!
by (620 points)
@fidelfidela13 just use the warm tea bag and have her lay down and place the tea bag over her eyes for about 5 minutes. Repeat like 3 to 4 times for an hour! I like to put a warm wash cloth over the tea bag and the eye so the warmth stays longer. It really does work. Hope this helps!

@explicate82 don't have the tea bags. ☹️ We just have the dried tea leaves.

@explicate82 going to soak a cotton ball and put that over her eye?

Maybe there is an allergic reaction to something? My sisters eyes swelled shut every time the exterminator came through.

@principality3 we haven't changed anything and they really haven't gone anywhere.

As the others said, warm compresses. Chamomile tea compress also. Another thing ive done is used baby shampoo to gentley wash the eye. It helps a lot. Put warm compresses often.

Also try the baby shampoo trick -- warm compress but dipped in some diluted baby shampoo. Works wonders on a stye.

Be careful. Cellulitis in the eye can be very dangerous. My son spent 3 days in the hospital.
by (3.2k points)
@fastback what were some symptoms? Right now she just has the swelling and a little bump on the bottom lid
by (1.3k points)
The swelling was the indication that it was cellulitis. That puffiness under her eye. Definitely have a doc look at it even if it’s virtually
by (3.2k points)
@fastback our doc doesn't do the virtual visits‍♀️ I asked for another pediatrician in the practice to call later to see it.

@fidelfidela13 can you try Teladoc? I did it last week. After they set you up in the system a doctor calls you back pretty quickly. They do video and voice calls.
by (3.2k points)
@disentitle7074 thank you. im going to wait for our peds office to zoom call us first. If they do t I'll try that!

I agree with @fastback. What I thought was simple pink eye in my 3-wk-old turned out to be cellulitis and a hospital stay. Not trying to scare you, but probably best to call your doctor. Maybe they can do a televisit first and decide if you need to come in.

@faucher99 thank you.

@fidelfidela13 it takes a village

@fastback no joke!

Glad it's only a stye. In my case, I scooped up my baby and told my husband I'd be right back as I wanted the doc to look at his eye to confirm it was pink eye. Yeah, well, 30 min later I called home asking him to bring me supplies as my kiddo was being admitted, we stayed there a week! So scary. I always feel better just calling and asking. Best case, it's nothing, but you feel relieved. worst case, it's something and you've caught it early.
by (3.2k points)
@faucher99 i always call them no matter what I'm probably borderline annoying but oh well! Normally I would've probably just taken her in but the way things are now it's scary. That would be my biggest fear to have it be more serious and not be able to be there with her now. Going to keep a closer eye on it now knowing what you guys mentioned just to be safe. Thank you!

Also, I do agree also that in the meantime, until you've heard from your doc, a warm compress will help alleviate discomfort.

Thank you ladies! Doctor called( no televisit) and thinks its just a hair follicle stye. We started warm compresses already so we will see! I appreciate all your recommendations!

@fidelfidela13 Isabella had one for about 2 weeks last yearish. She never complained about it hurting
by (3.2k points)
@buran Georgias not complaining of any pain. It looked so bad this morning. And with everything else going on I just about has a breakdown! We both feel better now!

Might be a sty forming. Warm compresses with chamomile tea if you have it. 3-5 x a day.
by (3.2k points)
@convention877 thank you! Already started! Now to just wait
by (1.1k points)
@fidelfidela13 it’ll go away. Don’t worry! My one daughter gets them kind of frequently.

Not a doctor. looks like an allergic reaction. Dis she pet a dog or cat right before and then rubbed her eyes?
by (3.2k points)
@halfon no. We don't have any pets and any we pass on our walks don't get too close. At her home daycare they had a dog but there were never any issues

Allergies maybe — call the primary dr or just talk with a nurse or doctor at the ER
