WTF is this nonstop honking near West Park?! 10 minutes or so now, a half hour into what WAS naptime/mommy's only break of the day.

Seriously, its about community and children. The teachers have families and kids too, they are doing it during THEIR working hours because they miss being at work and normalcy just like the rest of us. Please do not make this a negative thing. It's not at all!

It was the Forest Elementary school teachers and staff doing a parade for the students

@consumedly not sure there’s a “convenient” time that works for everyone. It’s a great way for the students and teachers to see each other in this strange time. I’m not trying to be argumentative.

Thanks :) I think these would be great to do on the weekends (and make them louder and even longer! ), when a lot of people are not trying to keep their jobs while working from home. I get that my original comment seems harsh now that I know what the noise was--i thought maybe it was kids causing a racket or a stuck train--but it wasnt my intent to try to take anything away from the kids who were excited to see teachers and the other way around.

@gasser3742  OMG did you hear that honking

Oh no not the honking! How dare they do something great for all the kids staying at home that they all love so much? So rude! lol

There is just always just gonna be that person!

@specialism67297 before you light me on fire, note that I didn't know what the parade was. That's why I asked.
by (2.4k points)
@consumedly didn’t mean to light you on fire as your initial remarks are now gone. We are all trying to get by and this was a highlight for the kids Hope you have a good day and were able to enjoy the weather

Hi Gina, Forest School teachers had a parade of cars driving around students homes. Central School did it this past weekend and I had no idea what it was either so no worries for asking! I think they are trying to stagger the schools out for different days/times. I don't think you meant it negatively at all!

@hilversum thank you for providing a kind response. When I initially asked I had no idea what it was and thought maybe it was kids being weird. I am just a tired mom trying to keep my job while figuring out how to work from home while also caring for my 2 year old, and my husband works in healthcare. I didnt meant to crap on anyone's parade, was just bothered by the noise that was interrupting my only few minutes of peace a day. I hope the kids for whom the parade was intended really enjoyed it.

@consumedly it's a tough time. I have 3 kids but 2 are teens and 1 is 21. I can remember like it was yesterday trying to get a moments break and peace and quiet. I hated when a plane flew over my house once I was able to get my kid down for a nap so I TOTALLY get it. I can't even imagine it being quarantined. It has to be beyond exhausting! I hope your husband remains safe and thank him for being so selfless at this time!

Sharing a short video of the honking. It was an awesome and emotional time for my kids that misses their school, teachers and friends. Enjoy the horns!

As a teacher myself, this is the least we can do to show our students how much we miss them.

Also. some of us work weekends too. So loud parades and fun stuff is always gonna interrupt somebody, I say enjoy the 10minutes if happy noise and be thankful its HaPpY noise and your alive to hear it! You were fine in asking. nobody needs to get their knickers in a twist. I have been participating in Alot of parades for students birthdays so I imagine all that honking can be alarming if you dont know what's going on.

Yesterday we heard a ton of honking on our street, it was for someone's birthday. Thought the kid was getting a two for one when I heard all the honking today. I'm a big advocate of week long birthday celebrations. Super cute when I realized what it was. If it brings joy to others, so be it. Seems like we're all trying to navigate these new waters and make the best, given the situation, for the young ones around us.

I say let’s give @consumedly some compassion, as fellow moms each one of us can understand the frustration of loud honking during that sacred space of nap time. Her frustration is understandable and sometimes you just need to vent-even during an amazing cause like the parade. Been there Gina! ❤️ I personally could see how you don’t hate parades, you were just looking for a, “yes, that sucks” bit of compassion and I heard you girl ❤️

@ancy1991 I want to cry when my 80 yr old neighbor gets on his riding mower 3 times a week right next to my kids bedrooms. I cringed and want to scream. So I get it. I stay at home. Breaks don’t exist. I get where she’s coming from too!
