Here is my secret spot if you dont mind the drive. Go on up to gurnee off of 90, and turn left. Drive around the gurnee mall and bam, you're in horse country. I walk and dont see anyone except plenty of horses and stables and forests. Its quiet and peaceful and horses are just so beautiful. Sometimes they'll even come up to the fence for a closer look at you. Just be careful of the fences. Some are slightly electrified but you will DEFINITELY feel it. I remember my uncle having me touch one so I'd remember and never do it again. It worked.

The trail along the river is nice. I like to park right near river and Northwest highway and take the stairs down to the trail by the dam. It's a little pain to carry the stroller down, but you can walk around to go under by the art & science academy if you don't want to lift a stroller
