Seriously is anyone else having issues with the school? They call daily and want to talk to the kids and want us doing school during the time they want us to and not when it’s convenient for us and its causing a ton of extra stress on me. They want me to come up with a schedule that they approve of like our schedule just isnt good enough. I’m close to just not answering all their calls and emails anymore. i also have a newborn and a 2 year old on top of my 3 elementary school age kids and its a struggle. plus i have to work but with all this school work i havent even been able to work

Have you talked to the principal and explained the position you are in? The staff are just trying to keep tabs on the kids. The last thing you want to do is just stop answering their calls because then that's going to raise some flags about whether the kids are OK.

@overact42908 the kids all make videos everyday and post to their journals so they can see the kids are all doing well but somedays my anxiety is insane and its really hard

Got it--still, I would reach out and let them know that you're doing the best you can and are finding the constant check-ins adding to the stress of this. If they have compassion they should be able to work with you.

I think this is the best advice you could get. ❤️

That’s strange! As long as work is getting done shouldn’t be a problem. I’m still working and sometimes we don’t get to school work until the evening.
by (2k points)
@unwisdom i feel like we are they only ones being pressured so much and its soo hard  they call at 11 to make sure we are on track and then at 330 to make sure they finished and if not they ask for the kids to get on the phone and start work while talking to them. Its been 5-6pm before and we are still working on school and somedays i just do it myself for a few hours to make the school leave us alone but i cant be doing this daily

@aldarcy that’s terrible! I work in a high school. The directive kids have been given is that they do need to check in for attendance (form) but they have their entire day. They won’t have access to their teachers if they have questions necessarily during the evening, but we haven’t been hounding kids unless we’ve seen no progress or engagement and it’s been more or less here are some tips/tools for kids struggling with motivation. I’m sorry the school is adding more stress. You may want to reach out to the principal since you’ve shared your concerns with the teachers already and they haven’t backed off.

@polychromy65611 its mainly the social worker but also my sons 3rds grade teacher and daughters 4th grade teacher but with my kindergartener its been a little better, the social worker calls multiple times a day and emails.
by (2.1k points)
@polychromy65611 I agree - seems so bizarre to be called daily. We’ve been reviewing student progress just weekly and reaching out then.

They need to realize how many kids you have and that your situation is not just that one child!
by (10.8k points)
I know a lot of friends with kids who sometimes do it later on in the day and they should absolutely be flexible with you on that!

Wow that would be hard. My kids do any work they need help with after 5pm.
by (10.6k points)
@cristie we also do ours around 4 or 5 pm today.

It’s a struggle for us too. I have to quit my work and do this homeschooling. another 7 weeks and then I quit being a pretend teacher

Don't answer their calls any more-- it is nice that they want to check in, but they need to understand that their schedule/requirements are not practical for everyone under current circumstances.

Wow. we just get a one minute video and a “call if you need help”. The work feels so minimal.

@cristie Tepke Gurgone i dont get why we have such issues. like we are doing this from 9am till sometimes 6pm and still arent done. its so stressful and alot of nights im up after the kids finishing their work  im losing it! Im on meds for anxiety and ive been trying to get an increase to help me get thru this
by (2k points)
@aldarcy oh no. We have opposite school problems and both are stressful. I am a therapist working from home so my daughter is having way to much screen time. I would highly recommend looking up “leaves on a stream” it is a mindfulness/defusion exercise that my clients find helpful.

Wow each school is so different. That seems tough. People are struggling and that seems excessive.

It’s plainfeild but I just get one daily message weather or not my kid did her work the social worker said she was going to call Monday’s but never called. They say the kids can do the work on there own but mine has no clue on the assignments. I thinking to myself is it summer yet cause I do enough activities that she is learning more things from then the e learning.
by (2k points)
@cilice your kid goes to plainfield? The social worker said she will call every Tuesday but now shes calling daily and stressing me out. i dont usually allow my kids this much screen time but now its required and i cant figure any if it out, they arent learning anything from this
by (2.3k points)
@aldarcy I feel like mine learns more from the activities I do with her then the school work. Social worker has my daughter phone number and I haven’t heard from her since last week

I haven’t gotten any calls for my kindergartener just messages on seesaw. But I have been waking her up and having her do her work at 9 am everyday. I think they are calling because you aren’t having them log on at 9am. I would just get everyone up at 9 and have them log on and do their best. You obviously can’t do work with three kids in different grades all at the same time. I don’t think the work has to be perfect, as long as they are logged in and trying to do the work, they will stop calling you. Your third and fourth graders should be able to do the work on their own and if they can’t then the teacher should give them something easier. You definitely shouldn’t be doing any of the work for them. I do help my kindergartener but the work is usually only an hour or an hour and a half. We are usually done by 10:30.

@paten they start at 9am, and we still get calls. i end up doing the work so they dont keep calling us all day long. its stressful

For those still working logging in at 9 isn’t always going to work. My kids seesaw info isn’t posted until after 9:30. So days I do have time earlier I can’t even work ahead earlier bc it’s not available. Bottom line - if work is getting done, doesn’t matter the time. Parents should not be doing the kids work though. I do get that.

My daughter attends ICS and I have to work so I let the teacher know that the work would get done but not on her time table. The teacher eased up and we are getting the work done. I would send them all an email and explain that the phone calls are taking away from learning and that you have a newborn. Let them know that you will contact them if their help is needed and then stop answering their calls.

My daughter finishes all her work for the day in under an hour. Nobody has called nor emailed. We get the updates from principal but haven't heard from any teachers. How do they even complete the year at this point? Everybody just passes? What about older kids and exams? This is all very confusing. I'd not be happy getting those calls either. It's nice that the teachers are connecting and I'm sure it's upside down for them too. Maybe explain your situation and they can work something out?

@oleate2 it seems like everyone I elementary passes. Middle schools and high schools and colleges are still getting graded
by (2.1k points)
@oleate2 I’m not sure how younger grades are working and I assume schools will get more direction. The directive thus far for older grades is that kids grades cannot go down from what they had going into e-learning, only up. If they stop engaging, they cannot fail but rather receive an incomplete where they will have to make up the material missed. Teachers are now able to give tests remotely but no matter performance, it cannot negativity impact their grade (again only improve). I’m not sure if more info will come out to schools/parents next week with further updates.

No phone calls either. just class dojo. kids doing it when they can. Some days it is just not possible. Follow your own schedule. Take care. Stay safe.

Elc has called. I answered once. 5 min convo. Didn't ask to talk to my child. I would definitely be frustrated in your position!

My son is in K at Central and it has been going pretty well. We were told by teacher that she would be e-mailing daily but I haven't gotten an e-mail since Monday. Seesaw has been pretty good for us. I have to admit we wake up late, let the kids sleep as long as they will and get up and start school work. I have never gotten a phone call.
