Is anyone renting a 2 bedroom apartment? Our landlord is selling our unit and wants us out because he wants to retire. The new owner isn’t willing to work with us, and we were given a 5 day notice yesterday, after telling him, we either pay him or save to move. Feel free to PM or text me 2248175061

This sight has lots of rentals on it. I put in your max (based on your comment above and 2 beds)

@stelle2633 these are not taking applications until summer. A new company bought them all and they’re remodeling everything . People are having to move out of here . But thank you

@lees58341 then why do they have it as list ‍♀️ ugh these people. You might have luck on Craigslist for a private renter or The Elements, it seems they always they have units open. Good luck!

@stelle2633 thank you! Same thing I said! I got my hopes up for nothing .

@lees58341 yah I live in these now they are forcing some of us to move when lease is up to remodel. We were already packing when this pandemic hit. I have my 2nd bedroom full of boxes but can’t move.

Are they allowed to do this during a pandemic?

@lees58341 yes. Credit and eviction history will follow you for years. What do you want to stop him from doing? Stop the 5 day? Or stop him from wanting you to vacate? To stop the 5 day you have to pay him. OR work out an arrangement with him. I’ve been landlording for 25 years. People who pay their rent late or who are habitually behind won’t get much grace for Covid19. If this is all you owe him hopefully he will work with you. Ask if he can use the security deposit for April’s rent. Most likely if you run off he will use it anyway. Tell him you can add $100 going forward. If he’s insistent on having you move then he has to give you a 30/60 day notice to vacate. If he only gave you the 5 day it has nothing to do with moving.

@principality3 we have been in the same unit for 6 years. We are good tenants. The times we’ve fallen on hard times, like when student loans affected our income, we got back on track. He was willing to work with us, until he made a threat for which I had no option but to file a police report, and now he gave us the 5 day. This is why I’m asking if anyone is renting.

@lees58341 oh the police report probably has him upset. Good luck. You should just move ASAP and take this months rent with you. You can find a place by MAY 1st. It’s costly to file. Hopefully if he thinks you’ll be out he won’t do it.

@principality3 it has me upset that he threatened to set fire to our home. I have two kids. That’s not something you say to people. Thank you for all the advice!

5 days! That’s not enough time! I don’t think that’s even legal!

Did the new landlord raise the rent to stay?
by (2.2k points)
@byington he bought it for his daughter, for her to live in.

Even if you are doing month to month and you are paying your rent on time, they have to give you 30 day notice.
by (2.2k points)
@ferritin correct, the problem is, we can’t afford rent here, plus 1st months rent and security deposit somewhere else, plus moving costs, all at once.
by (5.7k points)
@lees58341 is he going to give you your security deposit back?
by (2.2k points)
Non refundable

@lees58341 wow really shady. Tomorrow call Des Plaines and ask them if they have an emergency assistance program. They should help, then I would contact the township.

If you haves lease they can't do that. Tell them to start the eviction process it'll buy you a year at least If you don't have a lease you're screwed Sorry I hope it works out

I work with 5 day notices and they have to give you 30 day notice before the 5 day and if you are paying rent they can't just kick you out and with the Covid, landlords are restricted from evicting
